I have had my Subaru for about a year now and decided to do an oil change myself today. I found it hard to do because of the shield under the car. there were two trap doors but when i opened them there wasnt anything of importance behind them. Can someone lend some advice or a little help, the owners manuel didnt help much, do I really have to take the shroud off. advice is appreciated.

Get an oil filter socket at napa, and a 3/8" flex head ratchet from sears.
http://www.sears.com/shc/s/p_10153_1...+Purpose&sName http://www.napaonline.com/MasterPage...ench+-+End+Cap I don't know the size off hand. No need to take my unmolested shield off my 07' WRX to change the oil filter. |

I have the tools to do it with I just want to know what the easiest way to do it is. How do I drain the oil with the shield on? you would think subaru would be smart and made it easier. maybe its there insurance policy to make sure you bring it to the shop
. idk |

Get a fumoto valve with the nipple and attach a hose. I can live with the shield in place and change the oil/filter easily on my 07. Are other years sooooooo much more of a hassle?

Just remove it with each oil change, it's not like it's hard. I've had mine on and off about 98,000 times.
