What does it matter if is a GT-R or if is a Skyline GT-R? In the end most import motorheads will identify with the Skyline name as being synonymous with the high performance automobile referred to now simply as the GT-R. Which I find strange. Maybe they have drop the Skyline name now that it is it's own model. Whatever the reason I still like the Skyline badge. I wish they would've left that part of the car heritage alone.

The Skyline name was not dropped... the GT-R was finally made into a unique sports car.

The G35/G37 is the Skyline.

The Skyline has always been a mid-sized touring car. The Skyline GT-R was the equivalent of an Impreza STi or a Lancer EVO.. a factory special of an otherwise normal vehicle. If Subaru or Mitsubishi decided to depart from the formula and build proprietary sports cars to carry the STI or EVO, they wouldn't be Imprezas or Lancers anymore.

Calling the new GT-R a 'Skyline GT-R' is like calling a Ford GT a Ford Mustang GT. It's so wrong it isn't even funny.
