Default 2011 Hyundai Sonata & 2011 Hyundai Sonata turbo-274 HP, 34 MPG *Merged*

Quote:
Spy photographers in South Korea have spotted the next gen Sonata and Tucson just sitting around in a parking lot. Due for launch in their home country in 2009 and then for the U.S. in 2010, the styling of both looks to be revised greatly over the current vehicles.

The Sonata's styling will follow in the footsteps of the larger Genesis but with a sportier profile like the Genesis Coupe. Projector-beam type headlights, LED taillights, and clean bodylines are expected. Also expect a class leading interior, with Hyundai upping the bar past the current Accord, Camry, and Malibu. Hyundai-blog says, "The 2010 Sonata will be powered by various diesel and gasoline engines" with a hybrid following afterward.

Shots of the Tucson are limited, but various engine choices and a smoother clean cut body are expected as people move away from the rugged look of SUV's.

The new Sonata refresh is already a vast improvement, so if the final 2010 version looks anything like those renders, then big kudos to Hyundai. Damn.

2011 Hyundai Sonata: Even More Like A Camry

This photo from Hyundai-Blog show what purports to be an undisguised European version of the 2011 Hyundai Sonata.

They've clearly evolved the design from the current generation, which screams Korean car. This looks like familiar also. From the 3/4 view it seems to carry a profile similar to the current generation Toyota Camry.

-----------------------------------------

I gotta say that I am quite surprised by this design.
While I would like to see better pics before I make my final judgement, I actually like it more than the Genesis sedan which is way too derivative of M-B/Lexus.

Does look better than the Genny. Too bad it's not RWD.

WOW! WOW! Seriously, when the Japanese car companies said they were concerned about Hyundai, they weren't kidding!

I drove a current gen Sonota rental for a week, last week, and I was very very impressed.

Lights & grille are very Outback/Legacy-ish to me (throw some of Camry's odd bulges in as well), though Sonata seems to have elongated things even more:

The front end looks similar to the front-end of the older Solara... but better looking.

Default Official images of the new Hyundai Sonata have leaked out

Quote:
Official images of the new Hyundai Sonata have leaked out - ironically a couple of hours before Hyundai issued its own teaser sketches of the car.

The pictures, which leaked onto Korean car forums, are believed to show the Asian and American version of the car - although the Europe-bound version is not expected to look dramatically different.

The new Sonata, which may be called the i40 in Europe, will go on sale in the UkUKin late 2010.

Company insiders have told Autocar that it will have sufficient 'wow factor' to sell on its looks as well as dynamic merits.

"We expect the car to be close to or class-leading in every department such as emissions, handling, ride and so on, but what really marks it out is that it will sell on its looks as well as all its other attributes," said a Hyundai insider.

"The design of this car is every bit as big a leap forward for the sector as the Accent to the i30 was for its sector."
European sales are expected to begin with an estate version, with saloon and hatch models following later in 2011.

The engine range is described by an insider as "exceptional" and will include the 'R' diesels recently announced for the ix35 and Santa Fe, plus a series of small petrol and diesel engines.

Out of all the car manufactures, I still can’t believe Hyundai “gets it”. The cars they are putting out are phenomenal.

Actually, a lot of the manufactures that are “getting it” are brands I never would have considered before. The new Suzuki SX4 Crossover is 2WD with push button 4WD and for 2010 they are slapping a more aggressive face and rear on it as well as throwing a 6-speed manual trans in it. Plus it comes standard with a lot of stuff the base model Impreza doesn’t and its priced around a rumored 18k for the 2010.
