Spied for the first time in mule form, here are photos of the next generation Volkswagen Jetta VI cold weather testing in Lapland. Wearing the body of a Jetta V model, it appears to have a longer wheelbase than normal, the front bumper fit is slightly off and the front wheel arches seem wider than normal too.
Known in most markets as the Jetta it also goes by the names Bora, Sagitar, Vento and Atlantic. The first generation Jetta in 1980 was targeted to the American market as a Golf with a trunk. Since then the Jetta has become the best-selling European car in North America unlike its more internationally famous Golf sibling.
Lately though, starting with Jetta V, VW has sought to distance the car more from the Golf's younger, sportier, compact image and closer to an Audi A4 by placing it a little more upscale as a family semi-executive sedan. The current model Jetta V was launched in Europe in 2005 and our spied successor is expected to launch in 2012.

It looks like the current Jetta, because suprise illiterate members it is the Jetta V body, as the article CLEARLY states.

It never ceases to amaze me people commenting on test mules looks. Its about as intelligent as discussing how heavy of a boat a Ferrari could pull...

You do not think they got cheaper looking over the years..The older Golfs and Jettas were built better then the new ones,I think anyway.They even stated (VW) that the Golf was costing to much to produce and they took some of the standard features out.Also they kept the old model up in Canada because it was cheaper.

What about the exterior is cheaper looking from the spy shots than the previous generation? That is what you were implying. No, I do not see, at all, what looks cheaper about the exterior that would lead you to make that comment.

The latest generation Jetta has a cheaper interior than the previous two, which were REALLY REALLY nice compared to the competition. The Jetta's interior is moving toward the Rabbit's, which is a shame. The Jetta's from what 99/00+ were much much nicer than those in the 90's. They stayed a good bit nicer than the competition up until the most recent iteration....I agree. Just wondering what you saw...

What form the photos made you say that is what I was referring to?
