Default vf39 tooo big?!

well i threw out the VF22 idea and thinking of getting a VF39...
due to twin scroll and people say the 22 has more lag...

will the VF39 be too big for a Ej20g? 94wrx.

and i think i found a solution to that 90 degree angle..

what do u think? good idea? bad idea?

I have a vf39 on my ej20k and it is stock I put the 39 on the only mod I had to do was bend the oiler hose to make it fit...the screw only goes in one way and it was tough to get it in...also I had to cut a coolant hose a little bit to make it work..I'm running stock boost and I didn't have to have my PFC retuned...boost is great...it starts around 2500rpms...I'm wanting to go to a vf22 but don't know which is better

If you can run a GT30 on a EJ20 you can run a VF39 no problem . That turbo is small as hell .

any VF turbo will work well the 2.0L motor. and the lag on the vf22 probably would not be as bad as you think. depends on your budget but deadbolt offers some sick options on their 16G with or without the 90 degree inlet. Check it out.

16G for small "big" turbo... all day

check the comparison faq... has the most cfm... and I can tell you from experience that it spools yesterday

That vf turbo should spool good though

sorry for the thread jack, but how good would a PnPed td05-16g be? would it be good @ 18-21psi+650-750cc injectors i.e. ~380-400 crank?

That would be a kick ass street turbo... the 750cc injectors are a bit large for the application though. I would run the 650cc... you should definitely reach your goals and be well within the turbo's efficiency range at the psi you stated... You would be smiling alot.
would require engine management though.... You probably know this.

The vf vs 16g is like when the 1g turbo eclipse had the tdo5-14B... then realized it was more that what was needed for the engineered power levels of the motor.... Then switched to a smaller t25 on the 2g car and still met the factory desired power level easily. You only noticed when you turned up the boost that it was not up to task. All day any day the 16g is an "upgrade" over the vf series. Although certain vf are much better than others. check into the deadbolt turbos.

vf 39 is NO where near what the td05h is. the 16g is much much better and spool is there to. in my opinion as well with alot of others...the 16g is the way to go.

vf39 is pretty small in my opinion.......and you should actually run some 565cc injectors anything bigger than that would be a bit big

haha... sounds like you need that ebay turbo sound whistle for your muffler... not a turbo upgrade.

Nah... I understand what you are saying though... You gotta do whatever makes you happy in the end. Its your car and if hearing the turbo whine in your exhaust is your only desire... go with the vf and put the biggest catless turbo back exhaust you can find on it. You will hear it... even if someone with a 16g owns you from a stoplight... you can catch up at the next red light and say "so.... I bet you cant hear your turbo whistle if you stand behind your car!"

okay... I had my fun... Now seriously. You will be very happy with the VF. Just go for it and don't listen to any of us 16g guys. We are a biased bunch because we are probably the more performance oriented guys. That is not the only important thing of owning a car. I have heard the sound of a turbo spooling through the exhaust... It sounds sweet. Kind of like running an open downpipe, but quieter. You will still have a performance upgrade, just not as much as the 16g. Good luck with your car. Sounds like it is gonna be a sick ride.

if you want to hear turbo spool. just drill a few 1/8 inch holes in your intercooler piping. its a boost leak, but sounds like a loud whistle under boost...
