Csaba Csere, Car And Driver Editor-In-Chief, Resigns

Quote:
Jalopnik has confirmed Csaba Csere, the famously unpronounceable Editor-in-Chief of Hachette Filipacchi Magazines' flagship moneymaker Car and Driver, will be resigning his position effective January 1, 2009. Why? We've been given no reason, but Csere has been in charge of Car and Driver since 1993 and with the magazine since 1980. Hachette will now be conducting a search for Csere's replacement.
While I thought CC was pretty good overall, and C&D is easily the best US-based car mag, I do think that the mag was relying way too much on old-school auto journalists. It was getting annoying how out-of-touch some of these dinosaurs that write for the magazine were getting. But they at least got rid of Yates who was the worst of the bunch... did every article that guy write revolve around the Cannonball Run?

Curious why CC decided to leave.

Too bad, I love car & driver, CC writes good articles. Off topic: Are the rumors about Sport compact car true? Are they done?

Sad to see him go, I enjoyed his writing style. But, I agree that C&D is in need of some refreshing and younger perspectives.

Once they got rid of Yates, I didn't really have anything to complain about with C&D, except maybe Bedard every once in a while.

I'll reserve judgement until I see what the magazine becomes without Csere. I didn't really care for the most recent redesign of the magazine, so hopefully that will be improved.

Is he the guy that keeps denying that cars significantly pollute the atmosphere and earth will eventually run out of oil in his editorials?

Or is that another one of C&D's old geezer ...?

I don't think he's the worse of the bunch, most of his stuff is actually pretty decent, but that magazine has gotten to be geezer-ville, which doesn't mesh with the times that we are living in now.

With CC gone, does that mean that we aren't going to see the continual German sedan shootout, and Mustang versus Camaro/Vette/Challenger comparo that gets really, really boring when they do it month in, month out.

Yeah, but they've been mentored by old farts. Even the photography has a little sepia tone thrown in for the old man comfort factor.

Are you saying I'm old?

If they relied on the whippersnappers perspectives, the mag would be full of Civics with big wings on the back

Most of the editors are not. I forgot the name of the guy, but the one that "hosts" C&D TV is one of the youngest of the bunch. I think that guy is good. So is the guy with the Wolf-Dog - that guy is HELLARIOUS.

Sorry, but I have yet to see any young writer match the wit and knowledge of peter Egan.

Good thing he doesn't write for C&D either.

I subscribe to Cycle World and R&T to read his columns.

lol, I was talking about Autowriters in general.

But back to the age of the current editors. If I remember correctly, 7x% of enthusiast under 25 read their info online, so the printed magazines are targeted at the older crowd anyway.

Ya can't bring a laptop into the loo.

Well, I guess you can, but that's kind of gross.

And no online magazine has come close to matching their paper version - in terms of layout, photos, readability and convenience.

something..something..golden parachute.

stick a fork in C&D, they are about done. I predict a consolidation of R&T, MT and C&D into one magazine by the end of 2009. It'll be kinda like the Sirius/XM merge.

So how do you know I am wrong?

And Larry doesn't work there anymore and they stopped C/D TV years ago

Ya got me... writing like an old fart, and being one are not the same. I've been a reader/subscriber of that magazine since the 80's and they still have the same old-school mentality as back then, and it gets quite tiring. (I am mostly talking about their editorials, but it seeps into their reviews too)

Whatever you say there chief.

I disagree, and I would rather read old school mentality, i.e. wisdom, over some kid spewing over every high horsepower car that comes around. Heck, one only needs to read car forums to see that kind of idiocy

Arnt all the main stream car mags about the same. I rarely buy them, but occasionally I do. They all seam to have similar reviews in a given month.

I am a more grm kinda guy
