my brother had 5% all around and the ******* cop slashed the tint off the front with a razor blade. he had some sort of gauge i guess it measured light and he said they were too dark.

In MA its 35% all around and I have 35% on the front 2 windows, 20% of the rear side windows and the rear windshield. I wanted 18& on the rear sides and 15% on the back window but the tint shop was being retarded about it (in CYA form) and I was already there so I did it.

Got a pic?

I live in MA as well (35% limit) but I'm probably going to go darker, maybe 25 up front and 20 in the rear and rear window, but I need to see pics first, idk how dark tint would look on WRB.

i have 15% all around and have been pulled over 4 times since then....never a hassel about the tint, or a ticket for why ive been pulled over actually. Im pretty sure a cop cannot pull you over just for tint since they cant really make any scientific measurement as your passing them, but if you get pegged for something else and they wanna be a d-bag about it ud get in trouble. Ive heard of some hefty fines too, like 200 a window...

tint is another one of those things that your preference matters more than what other ppl think. if you dont want to be seen at all and dont care about safety go with 5%, if you dont want to be seen but want a lil bit of safety at night go with 15%, if you dont want to be seen but want safety 20% and if you dont mind being seen and dont want to get pulled over but like the idea of tints and want to keep it classy go with 35% in the front.

i changed my tints 4 times this past summer. the story goes like this. i baught my car and had pretty dark tints and a week of owning it i get pulled over just for the tints. i took the front ones off and drove the entire winter that way. then spring came and i wanted tints so i got 35% and i had 15% in the back(according to the cop who pulled me over). it was too light for me and looked like not tinted. ( i thaught they gave me 50% or its some cheap tint). i went to a new shop and got 15% in the front and another layer of 15% on the back windows. it was dark! and i have black leather interior(i drive a infinti not a subaru). also i couldnt se out at night that well. i was scared i will run over ppl wearing dark colored clothes. so i went back and asked for 35% and it was darker than i thaught it would be. i had that for a month and i found out it was actually 20% and not 35% so i went back and got 35% again. this time tho its perfect! its dark from some angles but light and im visible enough for them.

cops wold come up next to me and look for a while and always drive away. so i recomend going with 35% upfront and 15% in the back windows and get 20% in your back windshield so you can see out nicely when reversing.

For you guys in MA, from what I understand, the stock windows have roughly a 7% tint. So putting 35% on actually makes it 28%. Have you had any problems?

A buddy of mine said doing 40% would put you at 33% and if a cop meters it, he might not give such a hard time. I rarely see 40% offered though. Its usually 35% or 45%.

I want to do it in the spring but dont want problems with cops or inspection

I have tinted windows, but idk the rating. It was done before I bought the car, I'm going to meter it to see. So idk if theres ever a hassle, but just play dumb if it ever gets serious

ok so maybe i'm a little confused now, but someone enlighten me. the lower the "percent" is, the darker the tint right? So how can stock windows have a 7% tint? Considering that a 5% tint is basically rattle canning your windows black.

and btw, refer to page 2 for my 35% tints.

well yea since the tint law for NC is 35% so 35% is the legal but i decided to go 20% all around while wash state law is 35% so hopefully i wont get any problems and i"ll post some pics sometime.

Thats not how it works.

Clear Glass is somewhere around 70-80% Visible Light Transmission.

You multiply the percentages.

35% Film X 80% Glass = 28% Final VLT
35% Film X 70% Glass = 24.5% Final VLT

40% Film X 80% Glass = 32% Final VLT
40% Film X 70% Glass = 28% Final VLT

Handheld Tint Meters generally are +/-3%

Some tint shops will sell you tint based on the Film's percentage. Some will sell you tint based on the final VLT. Make sure you get this clear when you are at the shop.

15% and i think i made the right choice, i had 35% on previous car and hated it. 15% is dark enough for me and also "light" enough for me.

20% is the best. It's dark enough, illegal, and not quite as noticeable as 5%!

I had 20% on my doors, 5% around the back 3 windows, and 42% on my windshield with a 0% strip at the top. The cops around here are jerks and I got 4 tickets in one month for the back windows. They didn't even check my doors because 20% looks similar to 35% from outside. So I'll be going 20% when I get new tinting!

Pics are kind of old, but you get it.

Thanks vision for clarifying that for me. I honestly didn't understand how it worked. I'm waiting on the nice weather to come see you about my headlights. I like your setup with 35 front and 20 rear. And have no problems right? Who did you use in MA? I was thinking Solar Solutions in Bedford.

So does anyone know what the stock glass is on a 07 Impreza?

I havent had any problems yet. My car is 35/20% Film. I need to borrow my buddy's meter to see what it really comes out to. I used Tint King in Billerica, but they were overpriced.

My Leggy was tinted 18% Film all around. Inspection was a little hard (had to find the right shop) but after that I never got hassled.

In my opinion anything under 20% and you're looking at problems seeing at night especially when it's raining.

I have 5% all around and 15% on the driver and passanger window. and im in canada the 5% on the back window and back passanger windows are legal but the 15% on the driver and front passanger are illegal. Here if they pull you over they give you a ticket but the ticket will be throwen out if you take the tint off in 30 days.

I called the local PD and they didn't know the answer right off the bat. The officer did state that the general rule is for drivers to be able to make eye contact with each other. So if other drivers cannot make eye contact with you (including the boys in blue), its pretty much illegal. Are they really going to enforce this all the time? Not unless you're in a small town or CA.
