Default Wheel store in Omaha,NE tells me 18x8.5 is too wide to fit..

Basically went in to get some new tires on my Impreza at a local tire shop in Omaha, NE. Saw some rims I had been looking for and asked if they were still in production because everyone else told me they were discontinued. I asked him to check on the 18 x 8.5 and 18 x 9.5 and he said alright. He then calls me today and tells me 8.5 and 9.5 are impossible to fit on my car because they are too wide. I kinda went . So just wondering if anyone on the boards knows of anywhere in Nebraska or surrounding areas that pulls fenders or rolls fenders and actually knows what they are doing?

P.S. the wheel "expert" as the guys kept on calling him kept referring to my car as the Impreza SR.

depends on the offset and what tires.
