Default Best dragstrip to visit along I-35?

OK gang, after Easter - ya me voy - I'm on vacation. 'Bout time.

I'm going to Cobb on Tuesday for the latest upgrades, mainly fuel system. Should be done by Thursday at the latest.

Since I'm desperate to try the Rex at someplace lower than 4100 feet and see what it can do, what's the best dragstrip to try out along the I-35 corridor between DFW and San Antonio?

My grandmother lives in Temple, and I thought this would be a good excuse for a visit. But my time is totally flexible, so I can visit DFW, Austin, or San Antonio. There is a track in Temple as well, but I hear it sucks.

And wherever I end up, I look forwards to seeing some other Subies from the TXIC.

Suggestions? Padre

Kevin (Bankheist),

I've never been to a real dragstrip before, and I reckon this year I'll want to make it over to Ennis a few times, indeed.

Besides, if my WRX were selected to be one of the participants in the Ultimate Street Car Challenge, one of the "events" is 1/4 mile performance.

How are the Friday nights there at Ennis?

I don't want to make a fool of myself, but I really do want to try this dragstrip thing out in person.

Is this like the time the dry cleaners asked me if the WRX was my daughter's car?

OK OK ... I know my way around a racetrack, but I've got an idea that the 1/4 mile strip is different ...

I'll see if I can make it over there this Friday for my "inaugural run."

What time is everybody showing up there?

we'll work on times later in the week... they're open till midnight, so it would be cool if we could get a few guys down there.

chances are that PadreWRX will definitly run there, so, more the merrier.

1/4 is fairly simple, study the light pattern, haul ass...

okay, a little more complicated than that, but thats the premise.

My first few runs, some of the kids were asking me, "so why were you just sitting there?" When they saw the puzzled expression on my face, they realized I was a newbie and explained the lights for me (you don't wait for green to go). Since then, no problems. In my experience, most of the people there are performance enthusiasts and are always encouraging and helpful.

Looks like I'll try Ennis Friday night. Since you and I have similar mods, we can make this an auto vs. manual showdown.

I've been to Ennis once already this year, just my oberservations:

They sell race gas, 3 grades ( think) and the highest is 116

Opens at 8pm.

Races from 9pm till 2am.
(Get there at 8 to get Tech'd in and get a decent spot in the staging area)
15 bucks to run all night.

I spent most of the night in the staging lanes and got several runs in (5)

From about 12:30am to 2am you can run constantly since most of the highschoolers went home.

GoodFinder, You'll be fine After the launch its really quite boring.

As far as the lighting, most of you probably know this but they run an instant green. As soon as your 2nd set of staging lights come on, they wait between 1 and 5 seconds. They're trying to "Simulate" street racing.

Also they have a nice weigh station at the end of the track so you weigh in with you in the car. Just pull up and read the sign

One of my last runs while waiting for 3rd gear to top out I cracked my window and lit a smoke. ::shrugs:: Nothin to it

My best so far at Ennis was a 14.609 with a 2.02 60'.

I didnt think it was that bad for my 250 lbs ass and a full tank of gas.

I posted the videos from Shawn and I running 2 Friday's ago if ya missed it.

is where they are hiding.
