Post Question About WRX Fog Lights and Factory Alarm

I got the new rex last nite and have two quick questions:
1)Fog lights- Do these act as the daytime running lights? I notice when I start the car and pull the handbrake, the lights go off, when I release the brake, they go on. What's up with the foglight switch then. I push it in and the little green light on the switch doesn't illuminate. Do I have any control over the fog lights?\
2)Alarm- Last night I am getting out of work and go to open the car door with the key cause I didn't have the transmitter with me(Duh)and the alarm goes blaring. Of course you feel stupid, so I jumped in the car and remembered reading that you can stop the alarm by turnning the key in the ignition 3 times fast. This worked. In my Honda I could lock the doors with the power lock switch and walk away without the system arming.Last night I locked the doors with the switch and the system arms itself. Is there any way to lock the doors without arming the system? Is this what the valet mode is for?
3) Not a question, but talk about babying the car. I'm shifting below 2000 rpm between 1st and 3rd gear.Don't worry, I'll have her spooling in no time.
Thanks.

"I'm shifting below 2000 rpm between 1st and 3rd gear."

You are sending the WRX to an early grave. (It's got to be a typo!)

Yeah, a typo. I meant just below 3000.

Sorry,I meant between 1st, 2nd and 3rd gear. I didn't mean to imply I was shifting directly from 1st to 3rd. So back to my original questions...anyone?

um. Hey You!
I'm not going to try and pronounce that name.

The fog lights... if they are the same as the RS then yeah, you have some control. You can turn them off, but they will only turn on with the headlights. The DRL seems to act like the regular headlight as it allows the Fogs to turn on. In any car if you pull the hand brake the DRLs will turn off, so if the fogs only work when the headlight/drl is on, the fogs will turn off too.
Since nobody was replying, I thought I'd give it a shot. I reserve the right to be horribly wrong. Go experiment.

And I've got no clue on your alarm.

The DRL uses the headlights (at lower brightness, I believe) exclusively - the foglights are not turned on no matter the position of the foglight switch.

With lowbeams on, the foglights will ALSO turn on IF the foglight switch is depressed.

With highbeams on, again, no foglights, at all. Kinda a pity, as they do a good job of lighting the immediate area, and the highbeams are good at lighting the distance...

I agree with Chirik's description of the interaction of the fog lights with DRL, Low beam, and High beam.

First of all, the security system will never arm when the key is in the ignition.
It's possible to lock your doors without arming the Security system. The doors must be locked using the manual door lock levers (there's one near each interior door handle).

Locking the car with either the remote or the power door lock buttons on the front doors will always arm the security system, unless the key is in the ignition switch.

Going to the other extreme, 2002 Impreza owners with the factory security system can enable "Passive Arming." Here the system will arm automatically 1 minute after the key is removed and the driver's door is opened/closed, regardless of whether the doors are locked.
