Default Saab 9-5 Griffin Edition coming to Detroit

Quote:
  • • For those that want to show off their 9-5 with some premium badging.
  • • Additional standard equipment; Premium exterior styling.
  • • 260-hp 2.3L 4-cylinder turbo engine
Saab announced that it will show a limited edition of the 9-5 at the 2009 Detroit Auto Show next month. The Saab 9-5 Griffin Edition offers a more sportier and aggressive look with a variety of premium standard equipment. Of course all that premium standard equipment will come at a higher-cost to you with prices starting at $42,775 for the 9-5 Sedan and $44,045 for the 9-5 SportCombi.

So what are you paying extra for? The exterior of the Saab 9-5 Griffin features a new matte-chrome front grille, xenon headlamps, a rear-spoiler on the trunk lid and matte-chrome roof spoiler and roof rails on the 9-5 Griffin SportCombi models. You also get a set of 5-spoke 17-inch alloy wheels plus Griffin badges on the front fenders to let people know your 9-5 is better than theirs. The Saab 9-5 Griffin will be available with six metallic colors including Jet Black, Snow Silver, Nocturne Blue, Pepper Green, plus the new Carbon Grey and Glass Grey.

Inside the 9-5 Griffin you are welcomed by a high-gloss interior trim, floor mats with grey piping, accent color stitching on the steering wheel, shift lever and handbrake as well as on the leather sport seats. Additional standard equipment includes a rear parking assist system, heated outside mirrors that are power-adjustable, foldable and feature auto-dimming.

Saab only released one image of the 9-5 Griffin but we’ll bring you more from the 2009 Detroit Auto Show next month.

This car hasn't gone through a full redesign in 10 model years, somehow this car still cost $42,000+.

How is this 2.3L turbo related to the 2.0L turbo in the Sky/Soltice/CobaltSS/etc? Why does it make more power in those cars with even less displacement? (not to mention that new cheap upgrade that GM is offering that puts it at over 300 HP)

I think Saab could make some really cool cars, if only they were given the resources to do it.

Kill it with fire! How old is the current 9-5? 10, 11, 12 years?

For $42K, it should come with the headlight wipers and washers it gets in Europe...

(Yes, it's salt season again, and I'm already tired of having to wash off my headlights every night so I can see to drive home...)

It's related in no way shape or form. The 2.0 is an Ecotec and also powers the base 93 in @210hp trim. The 2.3 is an old Saab design from the Viking days.

Easy way to tell, open the hood, open the oil filler. If the dipstick is attached, it's Swedish.
