Default Atkinson to compete Rally Ireland in a Citroen

From the Yahoo UK WRC page:

"We are absolutely thrilled to be able to confirm the CitroŽn Junior Team as an M2 entry in the 2009 World Rally Championship," says CitroŽn Sport Director Olivier Quesnel. "As required by the regulations, the CitroŽn Junior Team will contest at least eight events in order to qualify for Manufacturers' points. Conrad Rautenbach, Evgeny Novikov and Sebastien Ogier will form the mainstay of the line-up, while Chris Atkinson is due to take part in the first round of the New Year, the Rally Ireland, in a CitroŽn C4 WRC."

It will be interesting to see how a Subaru drive fares in a Citroen. Maybe know we can get some idea of whether SWRT's problems have been 'driver' or 'car' related...not that it really matters anymore

You're upset because he landed a ride? Relax. That's how motorsports works.

Not at all! Atko was my favorite of the Subaru duo. I'm happy he still has a chance to compete. I'm just curious to see how he does in a Citroen...

Good for catko. I'm a fan of chris. Looks like I'll be rooting for citreon.

Let's see how much it was hardware and how much was driver.

...i thought he was the older, wiser, more experienced driver of the subaru world rally team...
i guess he's started to go insane since he found out subaru isn't competing in 2009...

but seriously, he doesn't have any plans for the 2009 season?

In interviews he's said he wants to compete where winning is possible... so besides being more expensive than Chris, he doesn't want to compete "in the junior team".

Atkinson out to prove his worth

Chris Atkinson is relishing the chance to compete on level terms with Sebastien Loeb and Dani Sordo when he takes the wheel of a factory spec Citroen C4 WRC on Januaryís Rally Ireland.
Atkinson was left out in the cold after Subaruís shock withdrawal from the series on 16 December but was thrown a lifeline by Citroen a week later when the French firm signed him up to its new Citroen Junior Team.
For now the 29-year-old Australian is only confirmed as a part of the team for Rally Ireland, but Citroen Sport Technologies Manager Benoit Nogier said he believes the association will go beyond this event - the first of the 2009 season.
Speaking to the Sydney Morning Herald Atkinson said: "This is a wonderful opportunity for me as I will be able to compete against Sebastien Loeb in a similar car and obviously my aim is to be as competitive with him and Dani Sordo as soon as possible."
Now we get the chance to see if the reason why subaru wasnt winning championships was because of the car or the drivers!

I don't think its that simple, if Chris starts winning it could simply be because of the more experience he is gaining, or the change it attitude that comes from learning his job is never secure, or it could be change in teammates etc etc. Its not that black and white.

Having said that, I'll still watch WRC just for Chris and I cannot wait to see the day when the podium reads Chris as number 1 and Seb Loeb as 2 or 3

He's won a championship and a dozen or so races. Why would he go devalue himself by racing in a lower series?

I think he might have to wait some period of time.

In the meantime, he can collect some unemployment check from our government. lol

I just meant he is looking for that type of team... my point was he isnt settling for less... and who ever picks him is smart cause petter makes sponsors happy by being "hollywood"

Maybe the timing will be very good for Chris. He gets to work under Loeb and hopefully procure some secrets, run with a team that has incredible resources, and fight for a viable spot with Sordo.

In other Ex-SWRT news Petter will be at Rally Norway:

Quote:
Norwegian Petter Solberg and his Welsh co-driver Phil Mills have submitted a private entry as the ‘Petter Solberg Rally MSN Edition’ but have not specified what car they will drive. Rumours circulated early this week that Petter had bought a Citroen Xsara WRC, but today Solberg dismissed the stories and insisted that nothing had been decided.
