1st driven and mainshaft cleared I'd guess......

I know where you could possibly find a new mainshaft, 1st, and 2nd for cheap.

Also the rebuild is doable....you could just take the stacks to someone to have it disassembled/reassembled.

The rebuild is possible, both Greg and I have the tools to do the job.....I don't anticipate doing any rebuilds for the near future....so you can borrow them.

Just saw your thread...I ran with you in ESP at Citizen's Bank Park in March. I had the white LGT w/gold SSRs that you beat by like 10 minutes.

That is one impressive WRX. Too bad it had to rain that day.

I'm trying to find out all the info I can. I don't have the tools, but if I can borrow them from jay and work up the knowledge and courage, I might consider trying to rebuild myself. Every one I've mentioned this to says no though and I can't find anyone locally that has done a install...

Should the center diff be left alone? What's the word on the front (mfactory). easy install, cheap, worth it?

IIRC, Karen, you have some issues with the diff install? which one(s) are you running?

The plan is still to drive the car to events, but it's no longer my only car so it will pretty much just be used for racing and scaring the crap out of some homeless dudes on spirited drives.

I took pictures this winter to do a whole DIY. You are giving me the impetus to do that here. In my insanity I seem to have misplaced the SD card that those pics are on....

Center diff you can leave alone the 50/50 split seems good enough.

Front diff I would go helical/mechanical. Mfactory being the most economical but yes you need to remove ~ 5mm of material from the ends of the axle shafts/stubs. Install is straight forward and easy once the case is split.

<-still looking for that damn SD card!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What/where can i get the gear parts cheap? so far I found a dealer that'll get them (1st second main) for around 460 if I pay cash =(

I'm using the same diffs as Greg is -- MFactory front, Cusco 1.5 rear.

The problem with the front is that it evidently wasn't really designed well. The leaking axle seals that I had at Nationals were a result of the axles not actually fitting into the diff properly, and that was after 4mm or so was milled off the ends. After trying their damnedest to get it to work, IAG finally just sent the assembly down the road to Andrewtech, who also gave up trying to make the '06 axles work and instead just retrofitted '02-'03 axles (which, as Greg pointed out, still need to be milled down ~5mm).

And MFactory will sit there and tell you that this is a "simple fix"

and that the unit was "designed to work in a GC8" to explain all the problems.

Oh well. It's "fixed" now, and I'll have it out at the DC event on Sunday (first event since Nationals), so I'll see how it works (and if I even remember how to drive it).
