Just curious, why do you run an 18" wheels rather than 17" wheels (other than your Hoosier wets)?

Overall diameter. You can't change gear ratios so they are the closest to stock.

and 68 mph in 2nd is pretty much perfect for autox.

Don't need wets as wide so the 245/17's are the same, roughly, as the 285/18's

Would you say R-comps are pretty much required to be competitive in ESP?

As they are worth around 2 seconds on a 60 second course over the very best street tires......I'd say "yes"

And you can't compare Kuhmo, toyo, Yok, R comps etc to the Hoosier or Goodyear DOT autox tires. You just can't

I only ask (because as you know with all my swap related PMs ) that I want to do most of the allowable ESP modifications to be a bit more competitive and eventually try out some SCCA events.

I've only done local events since i've owned my Subaru, and as of late, have only been racing under ESP in our "Street Tire" PAX class with my Direzzas.

No worries. I'm only answering cause you asked.

As you can see this thread is the original serious business.

Thanks

As far as those Hoosiers go, how long do they last you before you buy new ones?

Speed starts to diminish after about 12 runs. They can last 60-100 runs though.

Don't do the math. $1400 in tires 720 seconds of peak use....yada-yada

I'm confused. I just read the parts I haven't seen in the past year (jumped ship from ESP to FM). I know greg parted stuff out, thought he sold the car, but now he has it. From what I gather (or at least the story I made up in my mind) Greg sold the car to Hilary, moved to SD, then somehow got the car back, and is back in action?

Reading this makes me want to build my WRX again (I never took it apart, just stopped) but then I remember how much motors and transmissions cost compared to my FM, and how much slower it will always be, and then I lose that desire pretty quick.

You're not confused you nailed it.

I didn't think I'd have space for my car and everything here, turns out I do.

Haven't been doing too much with it. $ and work taking priority. I've only done 3 events in it since May.

There has been some bugeye on bugeye crime here. If you really want to index first, go where the index machine lives.....

Nothing really to upadate. Painting the car soon, changing clutch, and other misc stuff.

When I do drive it though it still makes me very happy to own it. I do plan on making it even more awesomer, just the whole mortgage in toledo, rent in S.D. thing do take a bite

Could be worse though!

back from the dead!

Sooo...got a new style perrin intercooler, a set of EL headers, the 70mm aps intake I've been sitting on, and a hard turbo inlet to install.

Tune scheduled for the 20th at cobbsocal for the parts and the fact that it's consistently E85 out here and I was tuned for ~74%.

Should be good, I'm stoked, I'll post the chart after. I'm hoping for 11ty unicorn and 82 pixie dusts from the retune.

w00t!

Are you using the TD04 with that intercooler? Did you have to customize it to fit?

Yes TD04. Haven't gotten there yet but either make the piping, or drill the center of the inlet side and weld a connector on.

Have you seen the process west TMIC?

They make a hose to fit 02-07 type turbos on their 08-11 WRX TMIC:

Yep. Kinda want to keep piping length to a minimum and retain the ability to use a vf52, or the 68hta variant for, SM testing.

+ gotta the perrin for next to nothing.
