Subaru Stars Possible Subie meeting in Fairbanks

Alright Fairbanksers, let's get together and have some horizontally opposed fun. We can meet together somewhere and go for a ride, lunch, whatever. I'm relatively new to the area so I'm not too keen on the best places, so I'll let the long timers come up with ideas. I was thinking of getting together this weekend, preferably Saturday, as next weekend I'll be busy. Let's do this!

someone should try to get ahold of PNut(Jeff) aka Siamiam. He's really sick and could use a morale boost like a bunch of Squarebanks car guys rollin through to say hi during the Holidays. Just a thought.

I'm posting up at Fairbanksforum.com, trying to see if we get a halfway decent number of people for a meet and greet, a cruise or whatever people are up to. Lats time I tried organizing something like that was back during the North Pole drag race and only three people were up to meeting and it all fell through at the last minute. Let's try to make this happen. I'll be posting it here and at Fairbanksforum.com.

Alright, we'll be meeting this Saturday, exact time and place yet to be determined. Possibly early evening (4 or 5 pm), location: either at the movie theater's parking lot, or at a coffee shop with a decent size parking lot, anyone got any ideas?

Default A "bit" off subject, yet....

I believe the Fairbanks NASIOCers should work* at finding a site for a RallyCross event and SCCA will come up and have a TSD Road Rally and a RallyCross event--who knows, maybe even a Solo too! I am confident we could arrange a marque event and you'll all run at the SCCA member rates.

I know that schedules are being planned...wondering if there would be any interest in a possible subie meet of this type?

RE and Rallygoddess

*work? While we have many members who travel north for work in FAI area, we need folk to "scout" sites. My Assistant Regional Executive has already made a run earlier in the fall with the RallyCross Steward, yet we are looking for sites for a Solo event. We will do the footwork after possible locations are found--contact land owner, secure insurance of $5M liability, equipment for events (pylons and timing are key), and such.

Organizing a RallyCross or Solo in FAirbanks would be great too. It's been years since I worked at an event like that (1996!) and any kind of sanctioned automotive fun is great in my book!

As I mentioned I posted on fairbanksforum.com and it seems our meeting won't be Subie only, Fairbanks is a small city and to get any kind of participation we'll have other cars present too. So far it seems that most people will bring AWD cars, but we're still undecided on a time and place. I want to have it set by today's end so we can meet tomorrow.

So far this is what I have: 5 pm at the movie theater parkign lot... anyone with a suggestion for a better place to meet please bring it up!

Alright, tomorrow's meeting will be at the movie theater's parking lot. I'll be with my blue Forester, parked near the street, around 5 pm. From there we cal roll somewhere else, I'm game for anything. My cel is 562-618-4592, the name is Ren. I hope to see some people there!

Well, northpolerex showed up with his WRX, Cabinguy from subaruforester.org showed up with his Forester and I brought my blue Foz too. We just sat down for some coffee at the College Coffee Shop on the corner of University and College, talked about Subies, the freezing cold outside and life in general. Hopefully when the weather warms up later on we can do this again, with a few more people attending and we can do a cruise!

I don't know if the site would work or not but I think it could. The Polar Roller site where the Motocross track is outside of North Pole has a large paved parking area with an adjacent dirt parking area. The two could be used together for such a venture. I have some MX contacts within their local club and would be willing to do some foot work.

I also have some contacts down in Kenai at the Twin Cities raceway. They have an oval and a large gravel/dirt parking lot. I am certain a thrilling course could be laid out there.

There is also a facility in Anchor Point on the south Kenai Peninsula that has a large gravel parking area for their MX track as well. It is at least a couple of acres square. I know a couple of folks down there who do some winter/ice car racing on Beluga lake in downtown Homer too. They have been looking to get something going like this for quite some time.

Yeah, I met up with Cabindude from sf.org, we were standing outside for maybe 25 minutes and then we said "f$%# this", and headed to College Coffee, later on northpolerex joined us there. We definitely gotta get a meeting when temps head above 0.

Business as usual, just avoid the outside. You guys in Achorage get wind and soggy snow, I know people who lived both in ANC and FAI and they say the winter is more bearable in Fairbanks. There was a breeze outside my home the other day and I was surprised to see wind here, haven't felt any wind since August...
