Post For those who use paypal..

Not sure how many people know this already, but I am knew to the paypal thing, so I thought I would share.
If you are going to recieve any payments over $100 you will have to sign up for a "Premier" account. This account has fee's and the "Personal" accounts don't. I did not know this, and sold my stereo for $190, which kind of forced me into the "Premeir Account", and only recieved $185. They charge $0.30 for anything recieved under $15, and 2.2% + $0.30 for anything recieved $15 and over. Not a big deal, but I thought it was free. They only charge for money recieved, not sent.
So, for all you guys with "Personal" accounts, make sure you keep the payments you recieve under $100. If I would have know, I would have ask the buyer to send me two separate payments. I got hit on shipping because I had to go to Mail Box Etc. ($10 more than I thought it would be), and then I get hit on the sale too, so it was kind of frustrating.

Just wanted you to know.

Paul G.

It has nothing to do with individual amounts of money received from other paypal members, it's total amount of money from other paypal mambers, and then, only if it comes off of their credit cards, not if it's from a pre-existing balance in their paypal account.

here's how it works- paypal set up a $100 a month limit for personal accounts to receive from credit card payments- above that, you have to upgrade to premiere. People can transfer you money that's already in their paypal account to their hearts content- there's no limit on that.

yeah, it's a bit inconvenient, but I like it a hell of a lot more than dealing with Money orders or checks. Personally, I think that it should cost BOTH the sender and the receiver a smaller amount of money, but what do I know?

Yeah, what Jason said above. I was not knocking the process, it was just a surprize to me. I still like it. They just don't say, "Welcome to the Premier Account where it is no longer free".

I don't use it much, so I would have been better off spliting the payments up. I think $100 a month is a bit low really.

O well,

(Just wanted to let others know before they ended up surprised like I did).

There are much better money transfer companies than PayPal. MoneyZap is probably the best, no real limits, no charges, and it's part of Western Union which is darn reliable. For some more reviews of money transfer sites try http://www.ygoodman.com/payments.html

I've used a lot of these companies, and while PayPal has worked OK the limits are a problem since I'd rather not pay fees. BidPay is also very good, especially since it accepts overseas payments, but it costs the buyer a fee.
