Default BMW releases M Sport Packages for U.S models

Quote:
As a holiday present, BMW North America decided to release the highly awaited M Sport Packages for U.S models. The M-Sport Package has been available in Europe for a while now and back in June, we saw the new M Package featured on the 2008 BMW 3 Series.

The package has been available for the 1 Series Coupe since late 2007 and now finally, the U.S customers will get the same privilege. The M Sport Package is available on the 135i and 5 Series beginning with January production, but all the other models will receive the same package in 2009.
If you’re wondering what the differences are between the regular Sport Package and the M Package then the following list should give you a better idea:
  • M door sills
  • M footrest
  • M gearshift lever
  • M steering wheel
  • M wheels
  • Available with an M exterior color
  • Anthracite Headliner (not available for convertibles)
  • Aerodynamic package
Additional options for the BMW 135i Coupe and Convertible:
  • Anthracite Headliner
  • Shadowline Trim
  • Sport Seats
  • 18″ M Wheels Style 261 M
For those of you that love the Le Mans Blue color, then BMW has more good news. Le Mans Blue can be ordered now together with the M Sport Package.
Continued
The M Sport Package on the 1 Series Coupe will set you back $1,300 while the package for the Convertible is priced at $1,200.

Additional options for the BMW 5 Series (excluding 550i and M5):
  • Anthracite Headliner
  • Multi-contour seats
  • Shadowline Trim
  • M Sport Suspension (RWD only)
  • Active Roll Stabilization (RWD only)
  • 18″ M wheels Style 135 M
  • Carbon Black Metallic color can be ordered with the M Sport Package
The M Sport Package for the 528i and 535i has a price tag of $4,500 while the package for the 528xi, 535xi and 535xi Sport Wagon is valued at $3,000.
I hope these new changes will satisfy the BMW fans and I honestly see a lot of the 1 Series fans ordering the M Sport Package.

$1300 for the this package is not bad at all if you are getting everything on the list below.

M door sills
M footrest
M gearshift lever
M steering wheel
M wheels
Available with an M exterior color
Anthracite Headliner (not available for convertibles)
Aerodynamic package

Anthracite Headliner
Shadowline Trim
Sport Seats
18″ M Wheels Style 261 M

Would love to see the M version of the 135i get about 350 HP

So this is German factory rice? (Sauerkraut?)

M Sport* Package

* Contains no actual performance-improving components.

I suppose a case could be made for the wheels, but only if they're lighter than the stockers.

pretty much like the "AMG-package" that Mercedes offer ... and in the end ... you have a bunch of regular Mercedes running around with AMG badges ...

i personally am not a big fan of such programs ..

the actual M steering wheel from the M3 is AWESOME.

Now if only the msport pack came with an LSD, but that'd make too much sense.

Oh well.

The only difference really between this and the old sport package are the 261m wheels and the anthracite headliner. Everything else is small and minor.

Yes this is not a 135i - M package more of an appearance package but something owners have been waiting for. That and the availability of Lemans Blue

M footrest= about 25HP
How about they offer a dipstick with their cars for starters?

Well, there is the steering wheel too which IMO is a significant interior upgrade. much more so than the headliner.

this is 2009, who needs a dipstick anymore? Especially on a car with free maintenance?

The steering wheel came with the sport package before. I am saying the biggest difference between the old sport package and the m package.

To be fair, they do have an electronic dipstick. But when that fails...

Free maintenance if you want to change your oil every 15k miles and have issues down the road. I would always factor in at least 2 oil changes inbetween on your own dime.

Everyone is a critic haha Basically you get a lot more for only a few hundered dollars more than the similarly prepped package used to cost.

M doesn't mean much anymore - leave the marketing behind - forget the badge and just decide if you like the car.

Yes, it's mostly cosmetic stuff, but things like a good steering wheel can actually improve subjective driving experience. You wouldn't be getting a BMW if all you cared was hard performance numbers anyway.

Besides, I am a huge fan of Le Mans blue, and if I had the money right now I would do a euro delivery on a 135i in a heart beat.
