Default CEL code P1100

I posted this in the "offical CEL thread" but that thread seems to be for ythos that have already solved the issue: http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/show...298963&page=30

I got this code on a 1997 Impreza L wagon 2.2L SOHC.

Pep boys and advance auto say "Manufacturer Control Fuel Air Metering"

I think it is starter related, because a search on here and a friend of mine say the code reads "starter switch circuit malfunction"

I had been having problems with the starter anyway. The starter was grinding and sometimes had difficulty starting. I replaced the battery and it started more easily, but still loud grinding.

I removed the starter and noticed that the grounding wire bracket was attached to the top bolt in between the starter and the bell housing, not between the starter and the bolt head like it should be.

I reinstalled the same stock starter (I assume its original to 1997) and it starts up much more easily and quietly. However, now there is a distinct clicking sound like a relay switching on and off and each click is accompanied by a small but sudden drop in RPM.

This clicking occurs more often during warm up but still happens after being warmed up. It occurs at idle, under throttle and off throttle.

Has anyone else had this code and how have you fixed it?

Anyone have part numbers for starters?

Is a 97 5mt the same as a 98 5mt starter?

OK, so I'm sure its the starter circuit.

Is the starter circuit located in the starter or somewhere else?
