Default P0302 CEL Stumbling Acceleration

Stage 4 2002 WRX stock internals.

After driving for over an hour the other day I was driving around the mall, stopped somewhere to eat. Then I started to drive back and notice my car was stuttering and stumbling during acceleration. It was jerking itself. The idle was very rough, and it would come and go. One minute it would accelerate fine and then the next minute it would start to stumble again.

I've done much research on here and read it could be bad gas, spark plugs, coil packs, injectors, fuel pump, etc.

What I am trying to rule out is that I have installed a walbro fuel pump and sti pink injectors about 8,000 miles ago and they were brand new so I doubt that could be the cause.

Coil Packs? Maybe...I will switch them around and actually order an extra set to be on the safe side...but Im really doubting this is the problem.

What I recently done to the car in the last week is I had a friend do a compression check which came out good, but I also let him put back in the spark plugs with the coil packs with his nifty power tools. I am going back to check if he left anything loose.....

I also replaced my PCV valve recently as well and made sure every vacuum line was secure and hooked up, made sure my TMIC hoses are tight.

What bothers me is that I just used the Sea Foam fuel cleaner not too long ago and that should have cleaned up my injectors a bit.

I pulled code P0302 (number 2 misfire) and P0300 (random misfire)

Walbro Fuel Pump
STI Pink Injectors
VF34
Catless 3 Inch Exhaust
TGV Deletes
Copper Plugs step colder
APS 65mm CAI

hope he didnt overtighten your plugs as this is known to crack the rex cylinder heads. also just move one coil packand check it again if thats not it do new plugs.

not to hurt your feelings but this was my symptom about a month before i lost a rod bearing

do a top to bottom on the injection and spark

if the code persists......doesnt look good

btw how many miles on motor?

UPDATE: Wire clip on coil pack on cylinder 2 was not fully on....so I clipped it in....gonna go for a test drive. See what happens when you let other people touch your car! Anyways im sure it was an honest mistake. Glad I found the problem before spending money on coil packs and o2 sensors. Will update again if the problem persists.

I was just going to tell you the same thing but it looks like you beat me to it.
A loose wire clip on the coil pack caused me a few probelms as well.
I hope that solves it for you....

well i just hope I didnt hurt my car driving with one unhooked wire clip to the coil pack to my cylinder number 2. I seriously drove my car for 100 miles before it started to actually act funny on me. And I didnt think the mechanic would let something stupid like that happen cause he is a subaru mechanic. But, it happens.

I did take it for a test drive and it is strong like ever, pulls really nice, my EWG is loud again (thought I was losing my hearing) and its smooth like better since I did replace my PCV valve recently too and used sea foam. So, hope everything holds up now.

check to make sure the clip isnt broken. i never unhook my coilpacks for this reason. plug changes can be done with the coildpacks just pulled out of the way and the wires still hooked up.

when you get more miles on your car thigs will get brittle and one thing that will more than likely happen is the coilpack clips will break

just keep it in mind.

glad to see you were able to find the source of the problem!
