not according to Jeff's spread sheet. However, according to the application chart from Subaru for the two different heads they are both available through 05 and 06. I think it's just VIN specific.

Mine came with B25 heads.

EDID: At least that's what being quoted by the dealer in the repair since they looked it up by VIN.

Cool Dom. I'd only seen them with B25. I learned something new today

My friend just bought an 05 WRX with an hybrid engine on it (S20 heads + ej255 SB). the previous owner said it was built HG with 2x the thikness.

My question is, at what CR this will put this engine?

Thanks

PS. Sorry for bumping this old thread

without knowing what pistons were used, and what thickness head gasket, among many other things.. that is a hard question to answer.

approx 8.6:1 with OEM headgasket
8.3:1 with 040" headgasket
8.1:1 with 051" headgasket

Assuming untouched S20 heads and oem EJ255 block.

Should have just used the OEM headgasket.

After reading this post i have decided to make the plunge. Just bought the EJ255 short block and work on finishing up the hybred. The one question i have is pertaining to the flywheel and clutch. I'm currently running a 05 wrx and have replace clutch with a stage two clutch and upgraded to a lightweight flywheel. Will i need to change these over the 2.5 version or will i be able to run my existing 2.0 parts?

thank you

2008, 2009, 2010 STI heads are all the W25 heads. Even the 2011 STI heads are I believe. They are Dual AVCS heads and are certainly not the B25 Intake AVCS heads.

the EJ255 (semi closed with deeper dish model) and EJ205 heads yields a bit lower compression (8.6:1) than the EJ257block w/ EJ205 heads (8.8:1)

my question is:

is compression the main concern or is it the quench / combustion camber shape that causes the detonation?

i know machining the heads helps with the 257 block, but would you need to do it with the 255?

Chamber is the issue. The higher compression ratio just makes the problem worse.

I was slightly confused by the question as well.

We have many sheets for blueprinting motors, but the question didn't seem like he wanted that....

Well if he was asking for blueprints for sleeving or as Dom said, maybe he want a list of dimensions for 'blue printing'

If you want manufacturing blue-prints, best of luck with that. Time to start measuring

Subaru's own Subarufast application disagrees. According to it ALL 05 & 06 turbo Legacy and Outbacks use B25 head. 07 use D25. No VIN dependency.

It would have been very strange because D25 use different oil feed pipe that I have not seen on a single 05-06 car.

However, I guess Subarufast was Jeff's source as well. I have never been let down by Subarufast so I tend to believe it over some bulletin from SOA.

not to take sides at all but I have yet to see a pre 06 LGT, FXT, Baja that didn't have a B25 head. As we all know, Subaru does seem to just grab parts sometimes or do mid year parts phasing...so the 06 could be just that.

Can't speak for a 06 by I will run out to my 07 LGT later and see if I can get the head casting number off it.

Are you sure of the car's history? Could it be some dealer's hack job? Maybe a manufacturer's car or something non standard?

E.g. I know of two USDM 06 LGT MT wagons that were manufacturer's cars, even though they were not officially sold - one appeared on used market couple of years later. However it was recognized by Subarufast by it's VIN.

But if it is not reflected in their own VIN-dependent parts database, that's weird isn't it? It would create incredible headache for a dealer repairing such a car. It's not just the difference in the oil pipe, but the air pump holes (I assume D25 have them), or even the engine tune due to the different compression ratio. The changes between 06 and 07 (when D25 appreared) were substaintial. Different ECU (CAN), different turbo, weaker wastegate spring, top-feed fuel rails. You can't just slap the new heads with the rest of the old gear and call it a day.

I mean sure, Subaru does mid year revisions with many parts, but the head swap is not minor change. I know of several mid year changes, e.g. in 05 LGTs and they are all reflected in Subarufast (examples from top of my head: bolts vs. studs on TGV housings, elimination of the gas tank pressure sensor, number of pop-its on rear bumper cover - yeah, seriously!). See, if Subaru goes to such an extent to provide accurate part info, they would skip on something substantial like heads?

With all respect to the knowledge and experience of Maxwell Power, color me very, very skeptical about D25 heads being present on a MY2006 LGT. I'd bet it was a MY2007 car. The car is probably ex just as the wife is, so I guess we can't confirm it

The car is probably ex just as the wife is, so I guess we can't confirm it
Bought it new off the lot with thirteen miles. She took it in the divorce though so I can't do **** to back it up at this point. Doesn't really matter though. If you need to know what is in your car, just look.
