Post Recall ? Anyone who had the wrong grease in the CV joint.

I wasn't notified about mine by mail or anything and I drove for about 10-15k miles on it. Now at 85k with a stiffer suspension I have rattles on both front left and right sides. Guess where there is play in the CV
joint. Yup. I am trying to find out if there is anyone else who may have run into this problem.
Thanks

This problem is only relevant to the 98's. The grease that they used back then was too thin, so it would drip out of the joint. Is this the same problem that you are talking about Sportback?

It's messed up because I don't remember receiving any recall info from SOA on that problem either. The only way you could detect that problem was from the burnt smell caused by the drippy grease.

I noticed my problem probably just before 10k. Now I have just under 53k. There is no play in my joints, yet. BTW, I have a 98 RS.

Have a Nice Day?

I have a 98 ex-OBS. I had bad smell coming from my car when I first got it. I never got a notification by mail. I just went in with the problem, and they fixed it. They told me it was the CV joints.

I had a clicking coming from the wheels for several months after the repair, but that went away after some time.

Man, I sure hope Subaru did not just regrease the CV joint and replace your CV boot. That is BS. I can't believe your car clicked after you had it fixed!
If the greese leaked out and you drove for a while, you probably reduced the life of you cv joint for sure.
I would have wanted new driveshafts with new joints and grease for a repair. I never take them apart. It is a pain, and takes longer too. You should call SOA and find out what the proper repair for the recall was, and if that was it, complain.

I have taken apart CV's and rebuild them.
It is nut fun, very messy. Willis yes that is the same bulletin. I think I will try to get ahold of SOA if I can find their number.
Thanks for the idea.
