Default help! quick exhaust fix

ok sry if this is in the wrong section, just got a call from a guy i work with.

last night someone hacksawed his exhaust on his 97 or 99(not sure which) nissan. just behind the manifold behind the flex piece (not sure what its called) there was a pipe clamp there from befor he bought the car.

heres my question: whats involved in fixing this, is it possible to just jack the car up, take the old pipe clamp and clamped pipe off and put a longer piece over the now gap(2-3 inches) and just reclamp it?

will this work atleast for a temporary fix? he doesn't need to get a ticket for his exhaust. hes already gone to the police but our budget for the fix is about 30 bucks(bi-weekly paycheck) i figure clamps and a piece of pipe will work but i've never done it myself befor.

any info would be greatly appreciated.
thanx
dan

Cut the ends off a soda can and slap that over the hole? That's how we fixed my old truck...

sounds like someone stole his catalytic converter....a growing trend these days. sorry to hear about that. call arround to a junk yard or salvage yard and see if they have the part that was stolen! id bet that they would take less than $30 for it and it would last longer than the coke can idea

So let me get this straight someone crawled under a car thats what 5-6" off the ground and cut his exhaust? Must be some skinny vandals. Did they remove a couple inches of pipe or just make a cut so its no longer one piece? If its just a cut take it to a garage and have them weld it. For a quick fix get some JB weld and just plaster it over the cut. You'll have to hold it in place for a few minutes to let is cure but after that the stuff is strong as steel and should hold no problems. Sounds like they might have been tryn to steal the cat but had to make a run for it.

I would think a muffler shop would fix it for $20 or less.

ok so wonderous me remembered the camera but not the batteries. so no pics.

they just made one cut

was an easy enough fix, 3 bucks per clamp so 6 bucks, and 2 bucks for a piece of pipe.

i have to agree now that ive seen it. i think they were after the cat. the cut was just a few inches infront of it.

thanx for the input

Sounds like they probably were after the cat and then got scared off.

If they made just 1 relatively clean cut, and exhaust shop will probably weld it up for you if you slip the guy a fiver.
