Default My key can't open the door!!

the only way to open the door is to use the remote. i do not have an alarm system just a normal remote that does lock/unlock/panic. i tried to use the key to open either one of the doors one day it doesn't work at all. why????? could this be that the previous owner or something had a complicated remote start and was removed by someone incorectly?

Try the valet key, if you have one.

The dealer can cut you a dual function key for about $6. He will need your key to do it. Go to the parts department. Go in the back door and stay out of the sales room, since they will say you need a new car.

Remove the door panels and check that the locking mechanism are still connected.

The ley lock cylinder is mechanical, it has nothing to do with the battery.

Since 05wrxguy's question was answered and the key does turn, the locking mechanism might not be connected, as I stated before, when you get a chance verify that everything is in place. It could be that the previous owner disabled them.

your locking mechanism is failing. might be a long shot, hit the inside of your door panel as this could jolt something. If you are not the DIY kind, sure a dealership could fix for you for roughly 100 bucks assuming you dont need any new parts

If your key works in the passenger's side door/trunk/glove box then it's your locking mechanism as stated above.

locking mechanism is failed sounds like. do you have only 1 key to test?

Lock cylinder, impreza, left 95-02 $42.82

MY advice to you? call around and ask how much it would be just to look at it. Usually if you take it to a locksmith, they might give you an idea what might be wrong
