Default Winter Driving Series - January 10th - Monticello Motor Club

Winter Driving Series – Monticello Motor Club
Let the snow fly –

The MMC Winter Driving Series is designed to deliver driving excitement, rally car style, on our track that happens to be covered with ice and snow!

On January 31st, 2009, weather permitting, MMC will be opening for its fourth event this winter. An exciting fun filled day of getting sideways and mastering four-wheel drifts awaits you. The driver with the fastest time of the day will be awarded $250. Our last event on January 17th, 2009 featured geared up drivers with a diverse mix of vehicles from street cars to rally cars. Check out www.drivemmc.com for the newest videos and pictures.

Utilizing the MMC South Circuit, the Winter Driving Series will be open to all licensed driving enthusiasts. Bring your friends and family to watch as you test the limits of your car through time-trials, open lapping sessions, and other exciting formats. Just because winter is here doesn't mean the motoring fun must come to a halt. So let it snow at the Monticello Motor Club.

Winter Driving Series Highlights:

* MMC South Circuit - 1.8 Miles with 11-turns consisting of large sweepers, increasing and decreasing radius corners, and thrilling elevation changes.
* Exciting Format - Go against the clock in head to head time trials, test and tune your vehicle's setup, and practice your skills in a safe and controlled environment.
* Rally Events - Break out the rally car, mix it up with fellow drivers of Rally New York and the USRC to put on a show for spectators.

What type of vehicle damage could one realistically expect from this event?

As in, we should fully expect to destroy bumpers, wheel bearings, tie rods, etc? I would imagine this depends on driver skill as well as how well the surface is prepped.

I would imagine some people drive their vehicle to the event... and of course, expect to drive home in it.

Honestly you should not expect any damage. The only damage that occurred last event was on my own personal car. My bumper and lip came a bit loose as my car was used to test the course all day and got stuck in a few snow banks. you may see some tire wear if we have some pavement sections. The only other thing I would be aware of is the ABS as it is not ideal for track snow and ice conditions. The key things are left foot braking and throttle control to transfer the cars weight setting up for the corners.

I would not be concerned about damage to your car. Just start out the first run slow and build up from there like anything else.

Snow would be the reason I would want to attend. So, good question. Here's another question: Can any level driver compete? Say you just want to come out to have a legal and safe place to let it hang out in the snow... Can this be that kind of event?

Heh... the Evo is really, really lowered, but has great snow tires.

On the other hand, my Legacy has 220,000 miles on the odo... I'm not sure it could handle a day of lapping around the track and still get home

Dan, didn't you buy an Impreza beater a while back?

This is exactly that kind of event. It gives our members an opportunity to do something different, as well as gives non members the ability to check out our track and have a legal, safe place to practice their winter driving. Rally cars can come and tune their setups before the spring, guys with winter beaters can use them to the fullest, and guys with average cars can have some fun.

haha, i wouldn't call the rs a 'beater' but we did buy it to beat on! the sti will be there too. matt- i'd bring the evo. we've rallyx'd on stu setups and this is just snow on a smooth surface.

jay- you and rich should drop NER- i convinced char to make the switch to this event. he made the right choice!

anyone considering going should sign up.. we need to keep these kind of events available to us in our area!

I don't think Richie is keen on the possibility of wadding up the STi. If I do manage to find some type of impreza I'll hit one of the later events. Def looks sick though. You better take some video.

Thumbs up

THANK YOU MMC!!!! what a sick event!

i think every person that attended would agree- this was THE best 4 wheeled event we've ever done! better than any track day, rallyX, or autox format hands down.

now i can confidently pitch a car sideways into a downhill 3rd gear corner with no problem whatsoever! i don't know any other place i could have learned this.

i'm sure the axisofoversteer crew will have plenty of video in the cayenne turbo posted soon. unfortunately, i was having so much fun- i never stopped to check my camera and the input cable worked itself out of the camcorder in the afternoon.

thanks matt g, bill, and all of the MMC crew and volunteers for making this happen. we'll be looking forward to more dates please!!

sti to evo to fit to CR! you nut! lol. my s2k barely sees vtec. i'll try to make it out to etown. but i really got hooked by the 2 wheeled trackday bug. carving around a corner with your knee down is a good feeling.

the next MMC event is ON!!! this saturday the 17th! anyone even remotely interested should definitely go. even a miata, civic, and starlet showed up! this is priceless car control training and ultra fun!! unfortunately i will be on the left coast in lake tahoe but i'd love to see participation up to keep this going!! let's get enough people to open up the full 4 mile circuit!
