Have a Nice Day? oil leak - head gasket?

06 2.5 i - 31,xxx miles.

Taking it in tomorrow for the 30K service and as I was poking around (like to look for other issues before bringing it in, clean up the bay a little, etc) I noticed a small amount of oil residue on the lower radiator 'port' (the term is escaping me - where the lower radiator hose connects to the engine).

Crawl under the car and notice a small amount of oil above and in front of the pan and on the header . Coolant looks OK, not even leaving drips on the garage floor so it's a tiny leak...

I assume the dealer will find it and hopefully fix it under warranty (I do most of my own maintenance and have the receipts somewhere) but I'm wondering 2 things:

Does that sound like the head gasket?
How much of a hard time do you think they will give me on a warranty claim?

pretty sure it;s not the pan seal since there's not much on the pan itself and some on the radiator inlet. i don't drive around in reverse that much . VanBortel is usually pretty cool - I've done a snorkusectomy (I know, I know) and have a grounding kit so they have some room to bitch but my fingers are crossed.

been there done that with a pureOne filter previously (crappy seals on the filter) but the oil is more in front and there's no residue on the filter itself.

Just dropped it off at the dealer...we'll see what they say. Time to dig out the subie bucks either way, the 30 k service is like $300something (yea buttrape but I want to maintain the warranty and have subie bucks)

On a side note, got an 08 sedan as a loaner- 52XX miles on it and it already has a rattle in the passenger side dash .

Thanks for the comments!

I'm willing to bet you have leaking valve cover gaskets.

how much?

It's the oil sling (never heard of it) - they explained it as basically the gasket on the oil pump. Said "it's an odd thing to go and of course under warranty. It's drivable, not that big of a deal"
Gotta go back next week when they get the part in - again said since it's a odd thing to go, they don't have any in stock.

Soooo....what would cause that to go? Purely defective part/fluke or something I could be doing?
