Can you move factory TPMS from wheel to wheel?

I have an 07 Outback with the factory 17" aluminum wheels with TPMS. I would like to switch to the factory 16" steel wheels so that I can run an off road tire. Can I move the TPMS sensors from the 17" wheels to the 16" wheels? I don't want an idiot light staring me in the face all the time but the cost of new TPMS sensors is prohibative.

Do you plan on swapping wheels/tires back and forth? Because to move the TPMS from one wheel to another, you have to unmount the tires, remount and rebalance.

I find TPMSs annoying..I built a pressurized canister for my Tacoma that I put all 4 sensors in, filled to 30PSI and its sitting in a cubby.

No, I'm not going to be swapping wheels and tires. Once the 16"s go on, they will be on until they wear out and then I will replace them with either another set of 16"s or put new tires on the original 17" wheels. I won't need two sets of TPMS sensors.

BTW, that is a pretty cool thing you did.......a pressurized can.

If youre not swapping wheels there is no reason to not use the TPMS. They should swap over fine.
