A dealer in my area is claiming that the 2004 Subaru Impreza 2.5RS they're selling is making almost 230 hp at the crank and almost 200whp. It has these mods:

Quote:
It has unequal length headers that are stainless steel that are a month old, 3" catback SRS exhaust that is a month old, all new gaskets, kart boy polyurethane exhaust hangers (stiff feel), weapon R secrect weapon short ram intake with ram air conversion, STI power steering pump, snow tires with 90% tread left, go fast spits underdrive 3 pully kit thats a month old, agency power sway bar linkage front and rear thats 2 months old, B & M short throw shifter thats 9 months old, value cover gaskets replaced 2 months ago, uranium spark plugs a month old, seibon carbon fiber hood, E I bach sport line springs that give a 2 1/2" drop, the timing belt was done by Subaru 30k miles ago, all oil changes done with royal purple synthetic, vehicle has been taken 93 octane gas since bought new in 04
You're kidding right? That can't be possible. Pics of the engine bay say no turbo:

That seems fishy to me. RSs are rated at 160, so that would be around 120-130 ish right? I dont think you can get 70 hp out of those mods.

But, it DOES have an intake so I dont know.

No way thats got 200 hp at the wheels F*CK that!! I got all that plus, straight pipe and an ispeed tune, and still dont make 200whp. Even if i had cams it would barely be up there.

Would you guys stay away from this car as a buyer? It has 130k, but realistically most cars on the road today will last over 300k if they're taken care of.

Let's see, UEL and a 3" catback, plus the SRI with Weapon-R's "ram air" (which is a joke), and some underdriven pulleys...

Yeah, that's about 65 HP right there.

Iridium spark plugs kill dinosaurs, but Uranium spark plugs kill everything. Maybe there's some nuclear fusion happening in there to make all that extra power.

I assume the hood scoop would be the "Ram air conversion"?

Maybe the centre diff is gone. Front wheel drive would account for the difference of the usual 40% loss to the wheels compare to their claim of 15% loss.

Buy whatever you're comfortable with, but these guys are trying awfully hard to sell a car.

Out of everything, I would not even consider it. What makes me also wonder is how does a dealer know about all these mods, also considering how the heck would they get dyno numbers ha.

And with that scoop any power addings from the parts the drag from the scoop kills it

i dont even consider buying modded cars from a dealership. they don't know anything about the cars unless they were their own.
