Gas light comes on early

In my 2007 2.5i, the yellow "hey, you're running out of gas" light comes on when I've still got five or even six gallons left in the tank. It didn't do this when I first got it, but it's been doing it for a few months. Can it be adjusted? Is it a sign of some other issue?

Possibly a bad sending unit. If it does it consistently, have it investigated/fixed under warranty.

That's a bit much, mine comes on sometimes with about 10 litres (2.6 gallons) left and I thought that was a lot.
