Default 03 Money Pit: Bearing noise in 3rd and 5th

Need help identifying transmission noise. I'm about to throw in the towel on this car. Just spent $1800 to have the gas tank replaced only to have the AC go out two weeks later. Replaced the radiator last fall. Starting to hear some wheel bearing noise now too.

03 OBS 165K
Headgaskets and clutch replaced at 138k...throwout bearing replaced at this time too.
Noise sounds like hiss...like if the AC compressor was actually working.
Only noticeable in 3rd and 5th...drowned out slightly by Stromung catback.
Goes away when popped into neutral at speed
Noise remains if the clutch is pressed in.

I imagine if it was the input shaft bearing it would be present in all gears...any thoughts?

Yes ... it's impossible to tell because we aren't there with your car to drive/hear this noise

Find a good Subaru mechanic in your area and take it to them so they can diagnose it. Try searching your local forum for good shops
