Default help with only 5 speed 02-2010 swap

Can someone please explain if there's anything different between the sti/wrx swap problems. I have a 02 wrx with a full 2010 wrx 5 speed swap not the sti 6 speed. How do I fix the hub problem . Is it done the same way so I can use the r180 diff. Or please explain my best route! It's also a wagon if that makes any difference. But no one explains the full 5 speed swap 02 to 2010. What will fix my hub issues? Also I keep reading that the speedometer won't work properly after switching the rear diff. Is that true?

I have a 2006 WRX, with STI springs and strut0 installed. I want to do the 6MT swap, while keeping the 5x100 pattern.

Parts I have. All came of 2005 STi

FRONT AXLES
STI clutch
COMPLETE 6-SPEED TRANSMISSION WITH SHIFT LINKAGE
CENTER DRIVESHAFT
STI STARTER
TRANSMISSION CROSS-MEMBER
HELICAL LSD

What else would I need? I swear I read through every post in this thread, but it seems very few of you guys did the swap in a 06-07 WRX so there isn't as much discussion about those years.
Check out the 6spd FAQ, might clear some things up. You may, and should, use as many original parts on your 06.
I kept the 5x100 lug pattern on my bugeye w/ an 07 6spd by using 04 STi hubs and brembos... but every swap is different and the FAQ is very informative, imo.

STI 6 speed - $3000
STI 6 speed clutch fork - included with tranny
STI drive shaft - $35
STI tranny mount - included with tranny
STI axles - $200
STI rear diff - $200
STI clutch, flywheel, and pressure plate - included with tranny
STI 6mt shift linkage - $100 for a brand new short linkage
STI 6mt shift knob - $25
STI 6mt shift lever - $80 for Kartboy SS
STI 6mt shifter bushings - $40 for Kartboy front and rear

So this is just a guess, but would this be all I need for a swap from an 04 STi into an 02 wrx? I already have a stop tech big brake kit. and i want to stay on the 5x100 hubs.

Guessing aside. Look into the rear diff and axles you listed with regards to retaining the 5x100 lug pattern. There are a few ways to do what you want but STI rear axles and an R180 will not work with your *WRX* rear hubs. Your existing rear *WRX* axles and an R180 will also not work. Good luck.
*I was making the assumption for your list that you are looking to retain your WRX front and rear knuckle/hub assemblies. If you plan to mix in some 2004 STI knuckles, well that is a different story.

Hey I put a parts request on the junk yard dog web site and literally 5 minutes later some Pakistani guy calls me repeating everything I said on the request and it did not seem legit what so ever. I asked him some questions and he was hesitant answering all of them especially when I asked where his warehouse was located in Canada, and he also said he could not send me pictures for security reasons. I told him I'd call him back, I won't be.

Considering a brand new STI 6spd from subaru is $7,500 (MY07), anything that seems to good to be true probably is.

This is a some what off topic question but I am about to be swapping a sti transmission into my car and I was wondering if these statements are true...

1. Gas mileage will go down? From what I have read the 06 sti trans has a shorter 6th then the wrx does 5th, If this is so how significant of a MPG decrease will I be seeing?

2. Second question is, and I know and agree that any loss is worth the room to grow by doing this swap, How negatively will this swap effect my cars performance? I have heard the sti trans eats up more power so I would actually be losing whp by doing this swap. Additionally in the wrx 5spd I know you can hit 60+mph in second gear where as in the sti's I have heard you need to shift to third I imagine this would effect my 0-60 times as well as 1/4 times? If so how much power would I be losing on estimation and how badly would this effect my 0-60 and 1/4 times? if at all?

I am full aware any light you guys can shed on this would be pure speculation but I would like to see what kind of draw backs I would be facing after doing this swap.

I am not huge on the track but I ran the car once and it ran a 12.6 with the wrx 5 speed to give you a idea of where I am at now. The car also put down 330whp/310wtq, and I currently average a bout 20mpg city, 27mpg high way.

I don't want my questions to make me come off as being immature and only looking at short term things, but this swap is going to be a hard hit on my wallet and I know there wont be any power adder mods going on for a while after doing this. So I would like to see where my car may be at for a few months.

Thanks for any help you guys can provide on these questions!

The gearing in the WRX 5TH & the STI 6TH is very close. About 75 MPH @ 3K RPM. I've driven regularly an '02 & '03 WRX, '05 STi, & an '08 WRX. If there's a difference it's not very noticeable

Yes, you will have to shift before 60MPH, but that said, most people still get better 0-60 times in an STi. Lower gear ratio = faster acceleration. I am unsure about the power loss in the 2 drive trains, but again, I wouldn't imagine it would be a great amount. With the better gear ratios, most people will have a better 1/4 mile time, you are still going to wind up at the end in 4th gear.

I am full aware any light you guys can shed on this would be pure speculation but I would like to see what kind of draw backs I would be facing after doing this swap.

Below is are the stock gear ratios, I scavenged from somewhere else on NASIOC. Somewhere there is a chart that actually gave you the speeds each 1K RPM in each gear, but I couldn't find it. If people are loosing gas mileage with the swap, I would say it is more likely that their driving & acceleration methods changed when they swapped. The very similar top gear ratios, make it unlikely that there is where they are loosing the MPG.

Thanks a lot def helpful, I was pretty shocked the 6 speeds are shorter haha...This whole time I was wanting that extra gear for less drone lolol...I remember on my Camaro 6th gear at like 60 mph was like 1k rpms hahah it was crazy

Does anyone know how much the sti transmission weighs? I gotta load this thing into my dads little truck and some people have said it is like 300-400lbs others say it is no more then like 150-160 it just feels heavy due to the awkward shape of it?

I am also a little overwhelmed. Say I have a 2004 WRX and I was looking to put a EJ20 Version 7 engine, transmission, and rear diff out of a 2001 STi in to my 2004 WRX. Will the axle from from the 2001 drive line work in my 2004 5x100 hubs?

I believe there is no difference in what year the block is. 2.5L and 2.0L can all bolt to wrx or sti trans. You just have to change the clutch and flywheel for whatever you are planning to run. As far as i know.

I am interested in doing a transmission swap on my 05 2.5RS, and I can't find the info that I need. Does anyone know how I can configure it so that I don't need to change out my brakes/wheels? I see tons of info for the WRX and the older RS, but nothing for my generation of RS. Thanks for any help.

Ok so after months of reading and research I'm about to pull the trigger on my swap. Just a couple clarification questions.

2005 wrx 5mt

Looking to swap 06-07 STi trans with all mounts, clutch fork and slave cylinder

Keep wrx rear end

Auto drive shaft

Shift linkage, boot and knob

All I need to complete swap is some circlips and oil seals correct for front axles correct?

Can I reuse my 05 wrx flywheel and clutch?

I plan on buying a dccd controller in the future.

Thanks for the input!

Been reading through this and still have some questions. I have an 06 WRX TR and just bought an 06 STI 6 speed swap. The swap came with everything I "thought" I needed.

6 speed transmission
Clutch/flywheel
Axels
Hubs (5X114)
knuckles
rear diff
shifter assembly
rotors
driveshaft
DCCD

I was wondering if I had to switch out my current calipers for the brembos? I've heard I only need to buy the rear brembos, but that my front brakes will work on the sti rotors. I have the red painted calipers that came on the model right below the STi (I think they are slighly larger than the base WRX) I have coil overs on there right now, and was wondering if I would have to change those knuckles and if so is it cheap and easy to just buy the bottom part of the strut to hook it up?

Lots of this is speculation from what I've heard. Just trying to get it cleared up. Insight would be greatly appreciated!

Just a note that for the DCCD Controller, we don't go with the name spiider any more and
now it is called DCCDPro "Universal Controller". Just to reduce confusion for those who don't know the history.

02-03 JDM v7 6mt tranny, R180, 6mt driveshaft into a 04 FXT 5mt.

Keep/reuse:
- Front axles/hubs
- clutch/flywheel
- slave
- tranny cross member w/spacers
- Group-N tranny 5mt mount

Need:
- r180 axles and hubs

Questions:
02-03 were non-DCCD so I wont need a DCCD controller?
Reuse the FXT 5mt harness?
Reuse the speed censor from the FXT or plug in the JDM?
Reuse the neutral csafety switch on the FXT by rerouting the shorter cable to the 6mt? Will it work on the JDM 6mt?
