AutoHQ, although they are a bit farther, the mechanic there can give you an honest answer.

yeah, SF proper doesn't really have any good independent Subaru specific shops.

We use LIC Motorsports in Novato, for all our engine work.
One of the only few places we allow someone to work on our cars. We refer many of our customers to them who are in the SF area. Ask for Noah, 415-892-7400. Regards, Gary |

LIC is the best by far, a very great shop. They got my car running quick and they do quality work
What about GST Motorsports? they are out in Hayward, a lot closer than Novato. Mike @ GST is really good and all the guys at that shop are really good as well |

My history with Scammy in a nutshell: A customer car of one of scammys many ventures is requested to be tuned by me. Ends up making good power on our dyno for simple bolt on parts. 300 something WHP if I remember. I get a call from scammy a little later saying they put the car on "their tuners dyno" and that tuner ended up making 50whp more on his dyno. I asked Scammy if he knew anything about different dynos and how they read. I tell him there is no way that car would make 50whp more then what it left at on 91 oct. Even if you pushed the hell out of it. I ask him if he was just confusing that the car made 50whp just strapping it on a different dyno. He says that the time from the baseline on the dyno to the final pull on the dyno was only 45 mins so I "Must not know what I am doing if it only took 45mins to tune the car" .Long phone call short, he ends up lecturing me that he knows better, been in the industry forever. Calls me a "kid" even though I think he might actually be younger then me. Phone call ends with him shouting and me saying "ok listen, let's just agree to disagree" More shouting from Scammy. I hang up. That starts everything off I guess. Later on I keep hearing little tidbits of things Scammy is saying about me through the grapevine. I guess Scammy didn't factor in that I'm about starting relationships with people I tune, rather then just take their money and close the door. Some of the recockulious lies scammy brings up are things like I melt sparkplugs, I change parts on the dyno while tuning???, change solenoids???, etc etc. At some point, Scammy ends up "sponsoring" jbfoco for track stuff. Scammy ends up finding out that jbfoco and I have created a relationship together for tuning his car and because of things, you know, that make friendships, like we both track together and own an Evo and get along. Scammy bursts into flames one track day after seeing a GST Sticker on jbfocos car. "get that sticker OFF MY CAR" he cries like a little girl, jbfoco basically tells him to EAD. All this keeps going on, Scammy keeps trying to spread dirt about me. He fails to realize that it's hard to get that dirt to stick when there is absolutley no real dirt on me even if you tried to go all the way back from when I was born until now. It's really hard to make a person look bad when that person really hasn't done anything evil. I left out all the conflicts other people than me have had with Scammy, like paying for parts and finding out they where never actually installed or telling people that their motors are shot, having the car in the shop for months for a build and end up not actually putting the real things in the car, insurance scams, etc. I'm not a part of that BS so I won't go into more detail about that here. In the end, I'm an enthusiast and enjoy these cars. I forge relationships with others that think the same. I cannot tell you the amount of time I have put into making sure people are happy with their cars without charging them for that extra time, or that little extra part I just happened to have in my toolbox. Scammy keep saying I am "ripping people off" and "in it just to make money" when the people that actually know better and are part of this realize that it's actually the flip side to that. |
