Default tire life in years, not tread

What is the service life of a tire if the tread is still good? My wife only puts on 5,000 miles a year. At that rate, RE960AS should last 8 years! At what point should tires be replaced if not worn out?

^^^^^^ Exactally correct. Tires regardless of condition and wear, should be replaced after 5 yrs.

Not that it's a big deal but I heard it was 6 to 7 years.

I thought it was 7.

NHTSA says 6-10.

Keep in mind that a tire will still work in 5 years, but it's performance drops every year. Like snow tires for example, after about 4 years the snow performance will have dropped substantially. After 8 years, you're not much better than the clowns who run all seasons in inclement weather.

tires have a life to 'em judged by time just as much as mileage.. be sure to check the stamp date on the tire.. it's 4 digits and it goes by week/year
