Default This is a good one (car CEL identification)

I've got this P1142 code my car keeps throwing. I have searched and found two different things. One tread says

P1142 Throttle position sensor circuit range/performance problem (low input)

Wile another thread says

P1142
Mass Air Flow Sensor Circuit Low Input

I think it is the first one only because the car falls on its face and picks back up only when I change the throttle position. Anyone know why there would be two conflicting codes on this site? I know the codes that start with a 1 are manufactures codes so this is kind of a gray area.

Also, if you know anything about the Throttle position sensor (TPS), or how it works please chime in.

odb-codes.com says the latter. Dunno how reliable odb-codes.com is, maybe someone from the dealer here knows.

Not very reliable when it comes to Subaru's manufacturer-specific (i.e. P1xxx) trouble codes.

This is correct meaning for Subarus:

P1142 Throttle position sensor circuit range/performance problem (low input)

How did you come to this conclusion. I don't disagree, I just have seen so many conflicting threads and google searches.

Well I got another one.

P1440 one thread says
Fuel Tank Pressure Control System Low Input

It's only in half the threads and it's not even in the set of service manuals I have. I would like to know what the fuel tank pressure system consist of though.

Page 329 in the Subaru 99-00 FSM (Diagnostics Section) reads

P1440 Throttle Position Sensor Circuit Range/Performance Problem (low input).

I have already changed the TPS sensor on my car and subsequently the P1142 quit.

The new code is now P1440 which I believe is the Fuel Tank Pressure Control System Low Input for which I have no information on.

i beleive low input codes have to deal with the battery.....as in low input = not getting enough power to operate. Just one of the possiblities but an easy fix lol

I was thinking I might have damaged one of the connections while modding the car. BUT IDK where. I don't even know what sensor or where this sensor is. I'm getting very little feedback with this. And it's not in any service manuals I can find.
