Default 04 HID to 4 beam halogen ?

I am posting my question here due to the possibility of someone here doing this on there car. Most want the HIDs. Only someone wanting to lose weight on their car for motorsports purposes would want to do this. IMO
I am debating on changing out my 04 STI lights for a set of the Multi Reflector 4 beam halogen WRX head lights. Question has anyone done this before?
Any idea on the weight lose potential of this swap?
What would need to be swapped over?
Could the wires be spliced in?
Would it be possible to change over the lighting wire harness?

This would also fit into the rule books under retro fit/ back dating.

Thanks ahead of time for any info.

PS I want to do the change over with someone local. So I will not have my 04 STI lights for sale.

You'd lose the weight of the ballasts. Maybe 3lbs tops.

Ballasts weigh about 1lb a piece. Leveling motors and associated wiring might weigh a couple of pounds.

Not worth it, IMO. You can find other easier places to shed a few pounds.

Regardless, I think the lights are plug and play. At least, Im 99% sure the STI>WRX conversion is plug and play, so I dont see a reason it wouldnt be the opposite.

It's not. The ballasts on the STI are tied directly to the battery because they optimally need the full 12V for startup. The halogen WRX headlights draw power from the harness which may not be able to handle the amps of the ignition from the ballast; as such, many people wire a relay system to the HID ballasts, using the harness as a switch and tying the ballasts directly to the battery (for putting STI HIDs on a WRX).

IMO, don't do it, not worth the effort or time.

I have no input on the weight savings or feasibility, but I have a question:

Which rule book are we looking at? What type of motorsports?

I only ask because in the solo book the WRX and the WRX/STI are on different lines, so UD/BD does not apply.

Not sure about the battery harness stuff, but I agree. More trouble than its worth

Thanks for the input on this.

I could lose weight in other areas, but not much more left to lose.

Car is down to 2824 now. With out me in it and 3/4 tank of gas. And almost full interior. The interior will also be comming out soon.

as an electrical engineer i can tell you there is a reason i didn't go that route when i installed mine - further searching on that topic showed me the relay setup. the stock halogen harnesses just aren't designed to flow that much current on ballast ignition, and there have been cases where the wiring has melted due to excess temperature from the current. for the most part it'll work, but i decided to be more careful.
