Angry Danger DANGER Will Robinsion!!! All in one header up-pipe NIGHTMARE

GRRRRRRRRRR . I put an Alphawerks 4-1 header up-pipe combo on this weekend. Pros. I felt a HUGE power increase and spool up was more linear. The exhaust sounds even meaner. I'm talking WICKED
CONS. I didn't wrap or ceramic coat the damn thing. It got sooo hot that it caused a half-moon grommet (thats what its called I swear) in the head to fail. Plastic part. This in turn caused a pretty serious valve cover gasket failure. Oil everywhere. Smoke in the cabin etc.. Plus it was a BITCH to install. (Had to jack the motor/trans up 6" to pass it up to the turbo. $283 to get it fixed and buy heat wrap and then have it wrapped.
It's only temporary too. I'm gonna pull the thing off and get it ceramic coated to be safe. No idea on the cost yet. It's gonna take at least three days to do the job too. ARGGHHH.
YAAAYYYYY Modding pefectly good cars that aren't paid off yet!

haha bummer. I'm guessing this is the semi circular grommet that blocks the holes at the ends of the camshafts?

Update. I haven't pulled it apart for coating yet. Everything seems to be holding up just fine. No new oil leaks yet and no more heat wrap smell. I go for a re-tune in March. 300 + AWHP here I come. Hopefully.

What other mods have you done/planning to do to reach the anticipated 300 +??

Right now I have an SPT intake, STI top mount, Ported VF39, Alphwerks 4-1 header/up-pipe, Titek 3" single cat down-pipe, Random tech cat back and walbro fuel pump. I'm running a Utec Delta for engine management and a TXS Knocklite to keep an eye on......Knock lol. Ever since I had my turbo ported (VERRRY BAD IDEA) to take care of overboosting it won't hold more than 17-18 pounds. I had a bad tune from a local shop. The guy said it was a mechancal issue, hence the wastegate porting. It fixed one problem and caused another. I went to TurboXS in Md. and found out that it was the tune causing the overboosting. I'm making + or - 288, not sure how much I got from the new header/up-pipe yet without a tune. I have a prodrive boost control solenoid and just ordered a Forge Performance wastegate actuator with the stiffest spring available. I might also go with bigger injectors from Dietchworks (Spelling?) Germaine Riddick (Lead tuner at TurboXS) Is pretty sure that I'll be able to run 20-21 pounds safely as long as I don't put the wrong octane in, EVER lol. I'll have a "safe" map just in case I can only get 91 instead of 93. I hope to braek 300 at the wheels. 301 and I'm happy. 310 is the goal. I'll probably need the injectors... maybee a perrin top mount too. Time will tell.

Subie_Sleeper68,
How loud is the Random Tech cat back? Will it work for a stock turbo or would it be overkill? Also any sound clips and where to buy?

I bought mine from www.ultrarev.com . Cheapest on the net. Trust me I looked all over. Check my youtube video. search for "baja sti" Just keep in mind that I have a DP on there too. I had it with the stock turbo for a while before the VF39. It was still pretty nice sounding. Now it's loader/throatier with my new header/up-pipe. GOOD LUCK!!
