yeah as stated above it could either be flutter or if you have a loud solenoid it may be that as well. either way it doesnt sound like anything that would be harmful.

as for the post above about not being able to use a blocking style solenoid on an ewg, i dont believe this to be true. we've had tons of customers install these ewg's with gm/perrin/prodrive/etc BCS's and have had no issues. also we sell these ewg's to a lot of tuners and they typically are tuning them with some sort of blocking BCS. i have heard people having issues trying to run the oem bleed style solenoid with the ewgs though.

My thought is it is the sound of the solenoid. I did not hear anything out of the ordinary while tuning. The Prodrive/HOA solenoids tend to make a ticking sound when actuating. The sound you hear while building boost is most likely the gate opening. It has a distinct sound, but I could see someone describing it as fluttering...just a really loud/mean aggressive flutter.

it could be 2 things.

1. your ebcs clicking and where it is installed the metal resonates the sound. If this is the case, it is fine, just a bit annoying.

2. Wastegate flutter, when you build boost in low rpm the wastegate opens and shuts to control boost so you don't overboost. This will cause a flutter (possibly wood pecker) sound. Best way to avoid this is don't do 2,500 rpm pulls, drop a gear so you rev at 4,000. This is easier on the turbo anyway.

I will see you at MMP. Debating on bringing my car. I hate you though because now I am debating on getting the EWG kit you got. WRX's with VF39's used to only make 260-264 whp on cobbs dyno, and extra 15-20 whp is a good deal for that part

stames thank you for the input! also john said the dyno had been reading low as he tuned a dom3 that only made 310 whp a day or two earlier so....... i think at sea level with a dynojet i would make some pretty crazy numbers for not having crazy mods. definately get ewg it is so awesome and still good for dd imo. i cant get enough of the scream and my gas gauge shows it too. so i am going to try and relocate the bcs and see if that makes the sound less audible. In the case that is is the bcs i will not worry and just mount it back up where it was, i just want to be sure everything is working as it should. Thanks all for the input i will report back shortly with my findings. also if you can think of anything more lmk.

I talked with Noah at Solid, he said that he mounted it right up without any rubber behind it. He said if you just un screw it and put something to deaden the sound you won't hear it. It is just the solenoid resonating on the metal. Everything is fine!

**** I didn't even think about it but does it sound like something is rattling under the hood like metal tapping or is it more of an air sound?

I am not familiar with the HOA BCS but if it is a blocking interrupt style like the GM or Perrin, then that doesn't work well with the EWG. You would be better off using the stock bleed style and getting retuned.

Basically, the blocking style BCS uses less duty cycle to control boost and the EWG need less duty cycle also. It is very hard to tune a blocking style BCS for an EWG as a little less duty cycle, and you don't meet boost target. A little more and you get WG flutter (which is the noise you have now). It is too fine of an adjustment.

The blocking style BCS work awesome with IWG though.
This is pretty terrible misinformation.

OP the sound you are hearing is your BCS clicking back and forth. Mount it with zip ties instead of a bolt and it won't be audible anymore.
