Default 2009 Impreza OEM Subaru Remote Car Starter problems

Hi
2009 Impreza with a Subaru remote car starter installed at dealer, It's been -30 the last few days and when I tried to start the car with the remote car starter the headlights and tail lights flashed on and off 4 to 6 times with a few second in between and the car didn't ever try to turn over and then it didn't try again to start. It has done this the last few days first thing in the morning and after using the car later in the day the remote car starter works fine.
Any ideas on what is happening user error or a problem with the car?

I press the remote button twice and the car beeps twice and then should beep a third time and start but I don't get the third beep just lights flashing.

With my wife's '09 Forester XT.

If you have the car plugged in, and the hood is not fully closed, the remote start will not work. This is kind of a pain, since the block-heater chord is short, and pretty much you need to keep the hood just sort of "latched" but not fully closed.

Make sure all four doors, the hatch, and the hood are fully closed, and the car is locked with the FOB.

The car sat in -30 C for about 5 days, and wasn't plugged in. I tried to remote start it. It cranked, but then fizzled out, and didn't start, (got no 3rd beep). A second attempt didn't start it either. I had to go out, key-in-ignition, and crank it about 3 times, for about 10 seconds each, before it turned over.

If the car is really cold, and it doesn't turn over right away, the remote start won't keep cranking the engine. It'll just give up.

Have a Compustar on my SUV and if you hit the button and it does not see 12V at the battery it will not start. I know it's not the Subie OEM one, but they could have set theirs up the same way.

It's been -30 plus windsheld -40 in the morning the last 3 days and I do have it plugged in at night. Before i try to start the car I unlock the door and opened the car hood and unplugged the block heater cord and put the cord back inside the hood and then shut the hood. I then lock the doors and try to start the car with the remote car starter with no luck. I get 5 headlight flashes and then nothing after that so then I go in the car a manual start it. Later in the day the remote Car start works ok, this has only happened the last 3 very cold days. I have been using the remote car start for about a month with no problems befor this.

1) I'm thinking it might be a door sensor or hood sensor frozen when I open them etc.
2) A defective remote car starter or installed badly
3) There is a cold sensor and if it's too cold the car doesn't even try and start?

Wow... -30 is wicked cold.. although I was in Montana skiing last week, and it was -25, but suprisingly it didn't feel as cold as the 10 (above 0) temps on the east coast, and I think its because the air is damper here.

At any rate, its sounds like RobM had the right idea with the remote start issues.

Hope you stay warm!

Well I did some testing, I opened the car door and started the car with the remote car starter (It started) so there is no sensor for the doors and then I opened the hood a crack and the car still started so I then opened the hood all the way and I get 2 fast beeps and no start. So the hood sensors and the door sensor have nothing to do with my problem.

The problem was starting the car with the remote car starter and the car didn't try to start at all what happened is five flashes of the head and tail lights.

Ok so this is the latest news, the car has been starting ok for a week or so with the remote car starter and today it didn't work again. I went to start the car with the remote car starter and just got the five flashes of the head light/tail lights with no start, so I tried again right away with the remote car starter and this time the head/tail lights flashed 3 times and then the car started. So i'm thinking that the head/tail lights arn't error messages.
I don't know if this info makes any difference of trouble shooting it.
