First i wanted to just say hi to everyone. I just signed up to the site. I got my hands on a mint 98 forester for a decent $, and i am in need of a engine for it. Im pretty sure it needs the ej25 motor. Im new to subarus, but im very willing to learn as much as i can. If anyone has any useful information for me, or where i could find a good motor , or if maybe anyone has one for sale, that would be great! Thank you.

Anyone know where to get a good rebuilt for the 98 Forester? Preferably with upgraded head gaskets.

Don't feel constrained to just the EJ25 engine, as EJ22's fit in there too. I've done 4 of these swaps with great success. A 1995 EJ22 would be a great candidate since it has dual ported exhaust, and everything plugs right in (you need to get the complete engine with intake, etc). Just be sure to get one with an EGR valve if your current engine has one, or you'll have a CEL on... A newer EJ22 will work too, just make sure you get the Y pipe as they went to single ported exhaust in 96 or 97, somewhere in there. Feel free to contact me for more info too, glad to help.

Ty for the info. I think I want the same EJ25: I drove mine for 190k miles & have been very satisfied. My understanding is the EJ22 has less horsepower & did not want 2 go there. I suppose there is always ways 2 make up for that.

Are there any advantages 2 going 2 the EJ22? Perhaps price? Thx again.
