Default If someone tries to steal rims off a 2008 STI, will the alarm go off?

I was talking to my friend with an 08 STI and told him he should get some wheel locks but he seemed to think his alarm would go off if someone tried to steal his wheels. Is this true?

No this is not true. There are not wheel alarm sensors haha.

edit: If I'm wrong, which I highly doubt, please correct me.

You can upgrade to the sensitive alarm system. I believe it was an option with the 08's. Wheel locks will not do crap. If someone wants to steal your rims they can.

Viper = Adjustable sensitivity.

My viper isnt super annoying sensitive. (wont go off if loud / truck exhaust goes next to it. wont go off if you shoot a gun next to it)
Yet it is sensitive enough to go off when someone bangs on the car.

Ya the factory alarm does suck. It will only go off if your windows break or you try and open the trunk with the car locked. Someone did a hit a run on my car a cpl weeks ago and nothing happened with the alarm. All I got was a sweet dent.

The factory alarm DOESN'T have a shock sensor. Without that, there is no reason for the alarm to go off from someone taking your wheels. You can buy an add-on shock sensor for the alarm, but it needs to be activated at a dealer.

wheel locks help but they arent fool proof... they prevent crimes of opportunity but anyone who plans on stealing the wheels can get them off

idk know guys by my 04 stock alarm will if u kick a wheel it goes beep beep. In the center where the e-brake is, is the sensitivity sensor. i delightfully cranked it up to Xtra sensitive. its like those anoying aftermarket alarms. that chirp when you sneeze next to the car.

my 05' does the double warning beep as well if something is kicked.

wheel locks are more of a pain in the ass than worth it. it takes all of 30 seconds more per wheel to steal.

If theyre going to steal your wheels, theyre going to steal your wheels...

If the vehicle is equipped with the shock sensor it MIGHT go off. Wheels locks will keep an honest person from stealing them.

AKA park in well lit areas. have good insurance with low deductible. live in a decent neighborhood. uhm sleep in your car. Those things will help....

It depends. You can get the upgraded alarm system. Some systems may be more sensitive than others too.

I don't know... but my factory 08 WRX alarm goes off with lightning strikes (thunder). I don't know if it has an upgraded alarm (I didn't order it) but it seems pretty sensitive!

Does anyone know how I can check?

^Listen to this person.^ If you truey want the wheels protected get a after market alarm with a tilt sensor, or figure out a way to tie it into the factory alarm.

Wow...you serious?

If sarcasm confuses you and Scooby-King so easily I'd suggest just staying on topic rather then changing it to make yourself look like a dumbass....no offense.

And "lock are only for honest people", was shortened from the old saying "locks only keep honest people honest"....

Various sized Socket/Tire Iron + angled/tilted = new wheels

These kind of wheel locks are a little more difficult to remove.

Unless you have a quality bolt extractor. I've also seen someone take a big ass chisel + a sledgehammer and snap the lug bolts right off and take the wheel.

Like mentioned if someone really wants your wheels its a snap getting them. Making them less tempting with the car being in well lit high traffic places, quality alarm system, etc is the only thing you can really do.
