Thumbs up Covert Performance

I'll keep this short

I contacted covert performance a little while back after seeing some of the work they pump out and loved the idea of getting a custom ewg setup.

they offer the service (among other services) of modifying your personal/existing uppipe for an external wastegate with the option of picking the wastegate (44mm, 38mm and 38mm vband) which no other company/vendor ive seen yet and the option of having it rerouted!

the price couldnt be more right and the quality is excellent. they have answered EVERY question I've asked and did it faster than any other vendor I've ever dealt with.

It's awesome dealing with a vendor who has excellent customer service, excellent quality/services and the best pricing I've come across in a long time.

I bought a BRAND NEW IAG uppipe, shipped it to covert performance, bought a BRAND NEW tial 38mm v-band ewg from covert, had the uppipe modified for the wastegate including ALL materials (flanges, piping for dumptube etc.) AND shipping back to me from covert for less than any other ewg kit on the market. also welded the egt probe on the uppipe free of charge now granted, it would be easier to buy a kit from someone like grimmspeed who fuggin rocks as well. I'm in the process of writing a review for them also . it would probably faster and nice to have everything at once in the same box but theres still the possiblity of the kit not fitting or missing a part or have a defect bla bla. this has nothing to do with grimmspeed lol. Im just using them as an example because imo, theyre the only company i would buy a ewg kit from...anyways.

For me, custom covert kit=less chance for defects or fitment issues and you get a package tailored to your needs/setup. awesome for someone like me whos a big pain in the ass when it comes to my car and car parts. you want it to be rerouted into your downpipe? want the egt probe bung welded? want double wastegates!? want to use your existing uppipe which you've grown to love because it doesnt leak and hasnt let you down in the two years you've had it and dont want to worry about getting a completely new package when you already have a perfectly fine catless uppipe?

I'll upload some pics as soon as I have some pics worth posting. for now, heres a link to his thread which has my personal uppipe pictured. look at the welds. godddd dayuummmm

http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/show....php?t=1654380 post #21

also...you could for sure go to your local suby shop and have a custom setup made but im willing to be that it will cost at least double what covert charges. subtract the shipping charges and material prices? he basically did the service for like 3 dollars

CN: big thumbs up to covert performance

I'll second that, I <3 covert performance. Kelly has been very willing to work with me to fabricate exactly what I needed and the parts have come out exactly like I hoped they would. I definitely know who to turn to next time I need custom parts fabricated. Here are pics of the parts he has made me so far.

Default Covert Performance/kmurphy

All attempts at coming to an amiable solution between myself and kelly have fallen on deaf ears, so i, unfortunately, now feel that i should make this issue public.

I paid for a subframe brace approx 9 months ago. almost 4 months later i received one that did not fit. Kelly took it back and was going to build me another with some thicker walled mounting tabs, at this point i opted to give him another shot since he certainly does seem like a fair and honest guy. I let him know to inform me when he began working on my second brace... well, i had heard nothing from him for weeks. Spring being upon us and myself wanting to have my car ready i asked for a refund and notified him that i would be going with another option. exactly 2 weeks after that pm to him he informs me that my brace was already built and that he doesnt know what to do. Never having notified me that he was or even began working on it like i asked him to do.

So as i sit right now i have been out $650 for almost 9 months now, no product and no communication from him. I will let all of you be the judges in what a fair solution to this is.

That's unfortunate.

Could he sell the version he made for you, or was it somehow a super unique application?

If it's just a matter of changing the tabs or something simple like that to make it sellable I'd think it wouldn't be a problem. I can understand if he had concern because it was a unique custom part, but that's no excuss for the communication breakdown.

Time is of the essence. If Covert Performance could not produce the product in a "timely" manner, then a refund should be an option. Playing possum, and then popping up when the customer mentions "refund" is bad business.

the only nodification to the brace was for him to make the mounting points out of a thicker tubing. that is all.

a few weeks ago i even asked him to go ahead and ship me the brace he "supposedly" had made for me. not a single response back from him since then

Has anyone heard from Kelly/Covert in the last couple weeks?

I sent him something a few weeks ago for modification, and haven't recieved it back. He also has not been on NASIOC or AIM in weeks.

Up till now, he has been a stand up guy. I am now a little weary, as he has almost dissappeared

No, you are.
You seem to be spending a lot of time on the computer talking about the situation instead of doing something about it.

this dude is a flake and a liar he pick and chooses who to swindle. i purchased a perrin front mount from this guy used, i install; the support bracket is totally out of line. i had to go to a machine shop to staighten and open the whole to make them fit since the year was off as well. i actually posted twice in two of his threads and guess what. Two nasioc MODs decided to give me 2 strikes for each attempt to warn the subaru commmunity of this guy.

man this is such a waste.. i've seen kmurphy's pictures of his work and they look fantastic. he would've had a great following with that turbo kit he was working on if he wanted to mass produce it. what a waste!

Some mods are nazi's on here man, what can you do. Welds look ok. That weld with the crack looks like to much heat was put in it when welded and possibly no back-purging done on it. Good luck with the situation

Jagstyle- Why does it look like all of the welds have been hit with a disc grinder in the 2nd pic? Not saying the weld didn't fail, but you can clearly see a lot of scoring that wasn't there in the first pic. Perhaps it was rubbing/hitting on something?

DZnutz- While Kelly at times has been a little slow to communicate, he has done everything for me that he said he would. Honestly, I am not going to point fingers as I don't know his side of the story. He was happy to correct changes to one of my projects though and was willing to pay for shipping both ways. It may be time for small claims court though for you if communication has stopped, and you do not have any product
