Default what offset with 8.5" wide wheel?

Probably a n00bish question but I couldn't seem to find this in any sticky or old thread.

I have coilovers so I believe that gives me a little more room to wiggle with, I am also trying to avoid fender rolling but I don't know if it is possible with this width. I would really like to squeeze an 18" diameter wheel, but if 17" is my only option I'm fine with that in order to avoid fender rolling.

Any help is appreciated - thanks

what is your ride height?

and what size tire are you shooting to run?

generally for an 8.5 on a bugeye on coilovers without fender rolling you want to shoot for a +48mm or higher and a 225 or 235 tire.

although if you're really low you may be forced to either roll your fenders or choose a higher offset or raise the car.

I'm about an inch low in the back and 1.5 in the front.

If I get 17s I have some 245s I wanted to throw on.

I don't mind adjusting ride height if it is necessary.

Do you think 18's are out of the question?

You have more room at stock ride height, but, I have done a bit of reading and question asking myself. Been told a lot of different things for offset, as fair as wheel height, I dont know why 18 would be out of the question, just changes tire thickness. 17's I would run 45 18's I would run 40. tires can get pretty thin, I've seen em at 35 but they get even smaller I'm sure.

I have 17x8 rpf1's, offset of +48, and I think the tires were 235/40/17. No where even close to rubbing anything.

^^ the reason I ask is because if you have that with stock struts I would like to think I could do 8.5s with my coils

I have those upgraded subaru coil overs. It isn't a STi takeoff, but something that the dealer sold way back when I bought the car. Supposedly it lowers the car 1.25" and 1.5". I tried finding a pic, but it looks like they don't sell them anymore.

17X8.5 you will prob want a 42 offset, you will most likely have to roll the fenders a little bit if you want to run anything larger than 245 with an acceptable amount of daily driver camber.

by the way, a 17x8 48et can run 245-40-17 and not rub with factory camber settings and being dropped with out coilovers.

17x8 +45mm or 17x7.5 +48mm?

a 235/40/17 is a bit short for a WRX but the taller gearing in the WRX isn't as badly effected as an STi.

OP what's the ride height? (measured from center of hub to fender)

camber settings?

as I said, ideally you want a +48mm. You could go to a lower offset if you were willing to roll the fenders. Also a 245 maybe pushing it on stock fenders, unless you're at ~14" rear ride height.

and 18s or 17s don't matter as you just need to make sure you get the right profile tire.

do you have a wheel picked out?

I know of a set of 18x8.5 +48mm wheels for sale PM me if you're interested.

17x8 +45

I'm probably spewing all kinds of non sense. They might actually be 245/40/17. I tried to squeeze the biggest tires that I could onto the car. I think it was pretty close to stock height too.

17x8.5 ET48 with 245/40/17's cleared my stock struts no problem. I had to roll my fenders, but I have a wagon.
