So can someone fill me in on these cars, i'm not familiar with IRC's classes.

Are they based on production vehicles like Gp.N and PWRC?
2wd/4wd? turbo?

Thanks!

The live coverage seems to not like FireFox, but IE works.

Surprise offs at the start are Auriol and Rossetti: http://www.ewrc.cz/ewrc/show.php?id=10319

Well the front runners are all currently S2000. AWD NA 2.0L with 8500 max rev limit. 1200kg weight

I correct me if I am wrong but I think Group N cars are also elligible (I think becasue there are a few MItsu's further down the leader board)

I am beginning to like these cars. Small and nimble and they seem to respond well to aggressive driving. Maybe we'll see some stateside some day.

Great show so far; Hanninen is really showing the best of the new Skoda. Vouilloz crashed out as well.

There are four manufacturers registered for IRC this year: Abarth (FIAT), Peugeot, Skoda, and Mitsubishi, who has the sole Group N car but per FIA it's on the same level. Short of any rules changes S2000 will be creeping into PWRC and a well run team should be able to dominate it. It'll get started in earnest when the new WRC regs come along.

Then again WRC events are a lot rougher, so maybe in some areas group N still has a chance. Plus for a while the cars will be cheaper...

why is it that S2000's are faster than the Gp N's ?

I would expect it to be the other way around

Maybe the spring New York rally...
Hanninen has a flat so without winning a single stage Ogier now leads. Looks like he was a great choice for the BFG* car this round.

*BF Goodrich pays Kronos (who is running Vouilloz, Loix, and Meeke's 207s) to maintain a fourth car at events for a local driver determined (I believe) by local media.

Going on a limb here, please someone slap me if i am wrong.

I think the s2000 cars are lighter. Definitely more nimble.

Could it have anything to do with the way they deliver power? SUre the group N cars have a little more torque due to turbo charging, but with the restrictors, the cars are pretty dead after 6000rpm or so where s2000 cars are making power all the way to their 8500 rev limit.

Just a guess, I could be totally wrong

It would be awesome to see S2000 here, but what manufactures here would have a car that would fit? I understand you are talking about the irc coming here, but it would be nice to see RA add the class. I am looking forward to the Open LIght Class. I am hoping its like RA's s2000 like "open" here is to Group A/WRC.

I am hoping its like RA's s2000 like "open" here is to Group A/WRC.

Day 3:
SS10 News:
Juho Hanninen: he retired after crashing onto his roof in the icy conditions, thereby putting an end to the remarkable performance he has displayed at Rallye Monte Carlo since Wednesday.

Peugeot UK driver Kris Meeke also retired after being caught out by the ice-covered road; the Irishman was fourth overall and had a good chance of fighting for a podium finish when he started out this morning.

Soon now (around 12:30 central time), the final stages over the Col de Trurini are being run, in the dark, on live TV. These stages are where the rally has been won and lost for years, with leaders faltering and underdogs storming down the narrow road to reach the podium. The live feed is available from the IRC website, which seems to be unfriendly to Firefox.

I caught some of the coverage online...it looked pretty exciting! Ogier definetly seems to be an upcoming talent. Also, it's nice to see some night-time stages run on the Monte Carlo rally again.
