deep Scratch+Dent

So I took my car out at lunch to wash the salt off. I found a scratch all the way down to the metal on my front driver fender.

It's obviously deep, a little dented. Now I need to figure out the best approach to fixing it. Questions: Is my fender aluminum or steel? Also, can anyone point me to a good thread on how to fix this? Sorry for the crappy pic, garage lighting is crap.

anyone gonna help? I'm driving from Illinois to Colorado soon and I'd like to have this fixed before moving back to my homeland.

There is no quick fix to your problem. The fender is steel.... wish they were made of aluminum!

For minor dents like that the best way to fix it is with body filler. Wet sand it. Fill it. Sand it again. Primer it. Then find someone to shoot color back onto the fender. Your fender is steel, so you better cover up the bare metal before rust sets in.

....there is a quick fix (relatively speaking). PDR (paintless dent removal/repair) is by far the cheapest, fastest and overal best method to remove small dents. As for the paint, that is another story. You can either apply touch up as best as you can and leave it, or take it a notch further by attempting to level the repair yourself, or take it to a professional who can do it for you. Personally, I would opt for these choices first before considering body repair and re-paint.
