Default anyone using an AVO fuel pump on their 08 STI/WRX?

the walbro requires modification to the cannister, which is fine and I'm capable but would rather buy a true drop in solution so I'm trying to figure out if the AVO actually is...

Hey look, a TXIC related thread!

Why don't you search the technical forums to ask these kind of questions?

The issue with the walbro on the 08 is that it's not drop in - requires modification (granted minor, but permanent none the less)..

I actually would PREFER to use the walbro, but its' not like it is on the 04s or hell even the 02s and up where it literally is a 15 minute job to swap it...

with the 08 you have to modify the cannister, and trim the pump connectors some because it uses the LGT cannister.

The problem is that nobody in TXIC likes you or wants to read your crap, especially since most of what you type doesn't belong here. It belongs in the technical forums. That's kinda why they exist. I bet you can find lots of people who are running the AVO fuel pump there.

Ed: What pump are you using - I have the thread on LGT for how to mod, and the stock fuel pump seems capable enough I am just worried about high rev high boost fuel pressure falling off. The pump itself is not the same as the legacy pump but the enclosure is

AVO claims their pump is pure drop in like the walbro USED to be, I was just trying to see if anyone could confirm that - the dude on the phone was less than confidence inspiring.

The real rub is the pricing of some of the exchange outs, the pump is about 75$ wholesale, 90$ retail with 6$ shipping but the swap outs are 200$+ or in the case of AVO they sell a full cannister/pump assembly for 695$ with a 250$ core charge (net net 445) which is just sillyness for a fuel pump.

Honestly I'm just going to end up modding the cannister per these instructions

http://legacygt.com/forums/showthrea...t=38929&page=1

.... Maybe if it works I'll I'll start a modification service and charge half what pltek is ;P

Thanks for the help... BTW I will have my factory fuel pump if that is what you are wanting to "upgrade" to - but it can't be much of an upgrade since even the smallest subaru fuel pumps were 145 lph

I am pretty certain that all the regional forums were intended to be social forums.

No, I was not here for that. Dont climb too high on that soapbox. We all know that poop is never not funny. (yummy, double negative)

hey I love me some battlecatz as much as the next guy - but seriously - the gall to tell my post is out of place but the guns thread or selling ammo or the happy birthday or others arent? I mean what exactly is an okay thread so I know.. it clearly can't be ANY thread that has any USEFUL information technical or otherwise...

When someone posts a question about computers and we all answer helpfully instead of saying some dumb **** like "hey moron, go find a tech support forum for your POS dell - bet they all have XPS 700s" - how is that different than asking about a fuel pump...

Now if people are just being ******** to me for the sake of being ********, I'm okay with that - but don't put it under the guise of misplaced threads.

you know if you want to ask me how to pass your CCIE on this forum, I'd be happy to help - and certainly wouldn't shrug you off with some jack ass response - is it related to Texas, Subaru's or anythign else? no - but i'd still help.

you are right..the pump in the sti is larger than a legacy pump...and an 08 wrx pump (i think) It is the assymbly that is exactly the same. You just missed a pltek one for sale on lgt.com last week...

your fuel pump is either 175-195...I can't remember right now and the meds make me wooosy. I've read quite a bit about them on lgt.com though

my plan is to either buy a vf52, injectors, and an 08 sti pump...or pick up a manifold/turbo/top mount off of an 08 sti that is upgrading.

others have tried to compete with pltek and have failed...the issue is getting everything to seat and seal properly.

if you are staying stock turbo...your pump should be fine... don't worry about it.

I would contend that that is probably not true - There is a lot of tribal knowledge in the regional forums - the forums were originally scoped to be FREE FORM forums, social or otherwise - but that certainly did not preclude technical information...

I'm all for OT post and all for complete wasting of time with those posts - but to suggest that a technical one is out of place is just silly.

Who said anything about stock turbo?

the stock 08 STI pump is 175, if it were 195 it actually might be able to keep up - the 255 is just a comfort zone, and it's relatively inexpensive insurance, it's just annoying that it's not drop in anymore.

I expect my TMIC might be going away soon, and my fuel pump will be out by friday... I just can't decide i really want the hassle of going with a FMIC or not... I've never been a big fan of the 72 feet of plumbing required to run a FMIC on these cars but it's hard to argue their performance benefit in hot weather.

There are technical forums for technical topics and regional forums for regional posts and socializing.

I don't really see the difficulties.

I'm sure you're trying to make some type of point - but it's lost on me because I'm too stupid apparently... But just so I am clear, any post is okay as long as it has nothing to do with technical information about subarus or really any useful technical information at all?

again - just to reiterate in plain jane english... I live in Texas, I own an Impreza, have been a member since well before the i-club split, and posting ANY technical question or useful information is not acceptable?

really?

everything is going to depend on what you do....

will it be necessary? maybe no maybe yes...would it be beneficial..yes....

Don't take this the wrong way...but I deal with alot of people that overcomplicate matters...and you repeatedly do this...

set a goal..do just a little research...and complete your goal. stop creating 10-100 more steps in between... you'll enjoy your car...and you'll prolly add 15 yrs to your life

otherwise your going to end up old and grumpy far too early in life...much like me

I ask plenty of questions around here...but I've payed enough attention to know who to ask...I don't piss them off by starting a thread that just ends in a disrespectful debate...and I pm them instead of wasting thread space on the topic.

I'm already old and grumpy, at 33... not worried about that.

I'm not overcomplicating the issue - just don't particularly care to share my build plans publically for otherwise obvious reasons. SOA and mitsubishi are notorious for forum scouring to deny warranty claims and I won't be on that list or be that guy.

My understanding is that the stock 175lph pump is good to about 360whp-ish and can support a 20G simply enough...

But hey enough with anything useful or technical, let's talk about poop and boobs... or back to the cats...

my favorite is the dunecat... whos with me?

you know I've been reading about the damn pump and cannister for probably 4 days straight, what I was looking for was someone that had PERSONAL experience with an AVO pump - and furthermore someone who was local ish such that I might be able to check it out. Even worse is the fact that calls to REPUTABLE tuners yielded different statements and results on the exact same question. Not a single one has used the AVO pump which makes me a bit leary, most are modifying their own canisters because pltek doesn't seem to even be doing them for 08s - he claims currently that his legacy fuel pump conversion does not fit...

It doesn't really matter what my reasoning is - if you don't like the thread, or for that matter don't like me - ignore it - no need to crap in the thread just for the fun of doing it, and I have no doubt it's fun for you guys...

The irony of all this is that at the end of the day, I'll still buy everyone a beer and we can bull **** about dumb stuff - I don't have any ill will or hard feelings towards anyone here - I just think it's silly to say a technical question doesn't belong in a regional forum of subaru owners...

Too geek-chic for a general forum. But I cracked a smile.

Ok, time to let this side-discussion die. Back to the pump ... I don't suppose the supra pump would work, or is that what the AVO is based off of?

Don't ever speak badly of dunecat again...

good question - AVO isn't exactly forthcoming with that info hehe... I'm sure they source the pimp from someone or possibly modify the stock subaru pump? - Meh it's all good I'm just gonna work on it tonight, as long as I don't dremel out the clips the stock pump should reconnect just fine as well.
