Default Moving to Australia

Im planning on going to Brisbane, I'll be leaving in July. I'm going to miss my subie and I don't really want to be stuck without a car. Is there public transportation? Could I get around without a car? I was considering buying a motorcycle. Most used bikes I've seen have been seelling for about 2,000 australian dollars. Does that seem right? Is there another australian based subaru forum or is there not a big subaru scene there?
Thanks nasioc

Hi missallie,

Public transport in Brisbane isn't as reliable/advanced/commonly used as other Australian cities such as Melbourne or Sydney. You are going to want/need a car or motorcycle. Personally, I'd choose a car if living in Brisbane as motorcycles arn't very popular and as such drivers arn't as aware of them in their surrounds as opposed to Melbourne.

The Subaru scene is quite large in Oz, especially in Brisbane. I believe Australia is one of Subarus largest markets especially for the wrx. There are plenty of local forums and clubs. Try rexnet.com.au for starters perhaps although I'm sure theres others on here who will dispute that.

Trains and buses in brisvegas take you wherever you need to go... sometimes quicker than cars. Motorcycle, and may god be merciful.
Depends on what you wan to buy as to how much you spend.... due to certain import laws and tariffs items can be more expensive in one place than another, and vice versa.

Plenty of people in the US wishing they had access to some of the Subaru gear we have here, just as many here want what is available in the US.
Try ausubaru.com.au,rexnet.com.au as mentioned ozliberty.com.au(legacy in the US).Plenty of subaru forums and clubs in all states, very good following in brissy and some good workshops the local guys will help out here.
Enjoy it here somewhat like going back in time compared to some parts of the US but way ahead compared to other area's in the US.
"L" series wagons and early liberty are reasonable buy's here for a recent arrival, bikes vary but a reasonable thing would be the jap import Suzuki Across model also sold locally so no parts issues.Four cyl 250cc model if you don't know them
On this bike the "Fuel Tank is actually a storage compartment and fuel is under the seat area quite practical if your so inclined.
Australia is great for riding bikes and also great for exploring the country with a Subie 4WD enjoy

No. You would need to live in the middle of the city and be in walking distance to everything.

That is very cheap and would only pick up an old, crappy bike.

I live in Brisbane, public transport really depends on where in Brisbane you intend to live and where you want to travel to. Best choice of transportation would be a car, preferably a rex. There are way too many large trucks on the road in Bribane to ride around safely on a bike.
