^ the newer FIA WRC rules they now rotate some of the more "classic" WRC events so if its not on the 09 season it should be back for 2010 *rollseyes , so this year the Monte Carlo was the first round of the IRC www.ircseries.com calendar

The FIA World Rally Championship has introduced a number of new measures for the 2009 season, which aim to reduce costs whilst raising the sporting challenge and increasing media coverage.

To reduce costs, the maximum number of technicians/mechanics per team permitted to work on the cars in the main service park is now eight. Formerly it was 12. In the remote service zones, four mechanics/technicians are permitted to work on each car; these persons may be different at each location.

For Manufacturers and Manufacturer Teams the number of chassis for both testing and competing in registered events has been reduced from ten to eight.

The number of test days for a Manufacturer and Manufacturer Team has been reduced further and reflects the reduction in events on the calendar.

Before the start of the season, Manufacturers and Manufacturer Teams must nominate the linked events where they will use the same engine. A maximum of four engine links must be nominated.

To raise the sporting challenge and increase interest, organisers are permitted to run mixed surface events. One surface must however be used on two consecutive days.

To increase flexibility for the organisers and help take the event to a wider audience, the maximum total stage distance has been increased from 360 km to 400 km.

To further enhance safety, it is now mandatory for all drivers and co-drivers competing in FIA Championship events to wear FIA approved head restraints.

From 2009, co-drivers in the FIA Junior and Production Car World Rally Championships will be awarded a world title.

Should a rally counting towards any of the World Championships not be able to be run in its entirety, full points will be awarded based on the established classification.

A world ranking for rally drivers will be trialled during the 2009 season for potential introduction in 2010. Established weekly by the FIA, it will be based on the results achieved in all FIA Rally Championship events and FIA authorised Trophies, Challenges and Cups.

The FIA World Rally Championship Commission will further study other areas of cost management for introduction either during the year or for 2010.

Monte pretty much ruled this year; a shame it will be a WRC round again with it's crappy daylight-only stages and tire requirements. As for Ireland, ibLoebwinsit.

Monte also had an interested spectator: http://fotogalerie.autosport.cz/disp...lbum=91&pos=61

Subaru Stars Goo Adapta!

Well Ill be the official person to announce that now the team we gotta support is The Adapta World Rally Team!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! since thats the only Subaru team running!!

GO ADAPTA!!!!

Quote:
Anders Grondal joins Adapta Subaru team for Rally Norway

Norwegian Anders Grondal will drive a Subaru Impreza WRC2008 on Rally Norway, completing a two car line-up for the Adapta Subaru squad.

Grondal, 24, and his Norwegian co-driver Maria Andersson will join Mads Ostberg and his co-driver Ole Kristian Unnerud on the rally which starts on 13 February.

“This is awesome for us - I'm excited as a kid!” said Grondal. “It will be fantastic to run a car that is completely on a par with the best. Now it is up to me to take care of the opportunity I have been given."

Working in conjunction with Prodrive - the British firm which managed Subaru’s factory rally efforts - The Adapta team will run the same cars Petter Solberg and Chris Atkinson were expecting to drive in Norway, and will operate from the ex Subaru World Rally Team service unit.

At this stage Grondal’s place in the team is for one rally only. But speaking exclusively to wrc.com, team boss Morten Ostberg confirmed that efforts were being made to increase Grondal’s programme - possibly to match Mads Ostberg’s eight round calendar.

“A lot comes down to sponsorship, but for now Anders ambition is to do a good result in Norway; the better the result, the more likely it is that he can do more rallies,” said Morten.

Adapta has not yet registered for the 2009 World Championship for Manufacturers, and will not unless it can confirm a second driver for its whole eight round 2009 programme. The deadline to enter for the competition is 1 March.

“For the time being we will enter as a private team but the situation is still open, there are still opportunities,” explained Morten Ostberg. “We haven’t totally excluded the possibility of competing as a Manufacturer Team, but for now we are happy to run under the Adapta name only - to complete the rallies, just not to score points.”

okay, at work so maybe it's just screwed up, but I can only see 35 participants in the rally.

I thought that Petter picked up a citroen or something and he was going to participate in rally Ireland.

I remember reading that there were more than 35 participants, and that Petter was participating. What gives?

Me thinks me internets are betraying me!

But Petter stood up a team and has a Xsara <sp?>, I had last read, and he intends to participate for all of 2009 with that team he has assembled.

Catko said in an interview that he's running Ireland on his own bill.

I hope he lands a PAID deal soon.

Chris really munched it... hit a power pole but with some help got going again.

He's not used to the car obviously.

Those must be weak-ass telegraph poles in Ireland. The car didn't take much damage at all considering the speed involved. (Although I'm sure Prevot might disagree with me!)

Sorry for the double post, but thoughts after watching Days 1 & 2...

- The redo of the WRC theme music is not bad.
- Never seen a water rally before!

- Is CAtko running unsponsored? Don't see anything but the factory Citroen decal on his car.
- Speaking of Citroens, anyone got any ideas what the 4-digit LED is on the Citroens beside the gear indicator (top center of the dash, in front of the driver)? Sometimes it is counting up steadily, sometimes it is stopped at 5999. I thought it was maybe a tach until I saw that last part on day 2. Maybe an odometer?

- I miss seeing WR Blue.

Finland had a ton of rain last year.
Atkinson seems to be just paying for his own race at the moment. I believe Rautenbach is doing the same because I didn't see any sponsors on his car either. And yeah, the lack of WR Blue makes the WRC almost unworthy of watching this year.
