Default Lets figure this out...Do I have a real 1995 STI Type-RA

My old thread got deleted but I wanted to start it again since I have more info to share. Matt or other experts please review my pics/info and let me know if you think my car is a REAL STI-RA

Thanks.

The car has:
RA Roof Vent
No ABS Lines at all
DCCD + Cluster etc
OEM Turbo timer
CF Strutbrace *removed
IC Water Sprayer *removed

Heres the VIN:

Tranny Code:

Firewall VIN:

Cross Hatching on block as described by Matt?:

5th Injector:

Block Code?:

EJ20

Is there anything I can take pictures of to put this baby to bed once and for all? I am pulling the engine this weekend to put in new pistons and do a valve job. It has low compression on all 4 cylinders.

You have a v1 STI RA... 272HP...closed deck....roof ventilator...ic spray

The giveaway to STI RA would be that you have dccd... the engine code you have(GC8C47D) is for both the WRX RA and STI RA model year september 94 to August 95, BUT... the WRX RA did not come with DCCD. Your transmission code also confirms what you have and your gear ratio is 3.900

The non RA wrx ej20g has the engine code (GC8C48D)

This site should help you... check model codes then transmission codes.

Good luck

OH NOOOS. ur ripping her apart. Again. Like ive seen done to that poor car many times before. That cross haching looks correct, as it does on my block as well. throw in some new acl bearings and headstuds while your in there.

Just wondering what the 5th injector is connected to on the ecu pinout. I read on scoobynet that it hooked up to where edm cars had the precat/02 sensor. Something that indicated overheated catylictic converter. Do you also have the p/s cooler?

I dont trust these older closed deck blocks for some reason, even though i have one,
the open deck motors seam to last longer. Maybe because RA was highstrung from factory? ie pretty nasty aggressive tuning (6k, 7k ecu)

I know that gearbox loves to keep the ej20g revving high. Hows your valvetrain doing?

It should be the bucket shim cam design correct? non hydraulic assemblies on early type ra ej20g. rev limit at 7500 rpm?

Sweet! There was alot of argument about this car and if it was real or not so I hope I have enough evidence now to support the claim that its "real"

I have to rip it apart...the previous owner ran it on 91 octane stock ECU

I will let you know about the heads when i get it apart.

That car is real. If it was just an RA it would be an DW4HJ. The fact that it's DW4PJ means it's STi-RA. And the pictures back that up.

The tranny is a 3.9 FD with the super short 0.97 5th. That's as short as 4th is a USDM WRX.

Sweet Finally! We have figured it out.

I cant wait to get it running properly...I drove it to and from EDO performance when it was low on compression and the gearing was definitely short but the car had no low end what so ever.

I have a New PowerFC+Commander for a JDM STI Ej20G do I need anything else for a tuner to tune it?

Thanks!

A factory installed Turbo Timer...I have never seen one before. Its a switch with the symbol of a turbo and it switches from 3mins, Off, or 1min. Its next to the DCCD wheel in teh center console.

I will take pics of that too.

Actually it will be a SB ecu for the v1 STI RA...

Yes... It is a special ecu for that engine and comes chipped from the factory... higher boost, etc... You will notice the chip when you open the case... I think the label is pink as well.

If he did have a v2 STI RA then.... it would be 7K... but his vin and trans codes do not support this.

6k is the STI non RA

Ooops, you are right.... I thought I saw it was a Ver2 STI-RA. SB would the correct ECU for STi Ver1 RA.

And if it is SB, I would oh so much like to borrow it for few days

I wonder what is different between an SB and SA other than 5th injector control.

Are you sure on that Matt? My info says the Ver1 STI-RA had the same ratios and final as the standard WRX RA. It was the Ver2 STI-RA that moved to 3.9 final.

It's got a B3EA tranny in it. That's a 3.9 with the super short gears. That was also found in the MY95 RA. The B3DA in the MY94 RA's was the same ratios but with a 4.11 FD.

But then it depends on who you talk to. There are many who consider V2 to span 2 years to include MY95 and MY96, with V1 being MY94. Other people group MY95 into V1 with 1994. It kind of depends on your source whether this car is a V1 or V2. But what I am sure of is the ratios in the tranny listed on the vin plate no matter what you call the car.
