Is that a little clacking sound at the beginning of acceleration or just camera noise? (at 3 to 4 seconds)

Just saying because it sounds like my mystery clack... just before load. Revving to the sky for sure!

Something is wrong in here. The '07 USDM STI does not have the same FD ratio as the earlier years,...and I think the 5th and 6th gears are the same.

The tranny runs a 3.900FD. The rear diff of the '06+ STI's run 3.545 with the 1.1:1 step-up transfer gear in the transfer case.

Hey guys had a question I was hoping to get some help with. My 03 wrx wagon's rear diff is gone. I was looking at Fuji K's list of gear ratios and trying to figure out if I can use a diff from another subaru with the same 3.900FD or do I have to use a 02-03 wrx rear diff? Also, when I bought the car the transmission's gears had been rebuilt with 06 wrx gears. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks

If the gears are just the ones that got replaced, then your final drive should still be 3.900 in the tranny, meaning the rear diff stayed the same. You need to find a rear diff from an 02-05 WRX.

it depends which years.
i.e. Now, '08+ the USDM turbo 5spds are running what the '97-'00 JDM STi/WRX used to run.

Just wondering if '05+ LGT gears are the same width as the older '97-'00 JDM STi/WRX gears? Or are they the same as the narrower gears that we have in the older USDM transmissions?

I can't say. I would question it though since Subaru said they widened the '03+ tranny gears on the WRX, wonder if they did the same for the '05+ LGT. Don't hear too much broken tranny stories on the LGT's.

I hope you know that the LGT gear ratios and the STi RA ratios are a bit different. The LGT ratios are geared with a bit less gap between shifts. The gearing helps save themselves. I just wished the case was made to have ribs like the 6spd.

I road course so I put in 1-4 M-Factory close ratio gearset and left the stock 5th because it is a DD.
With hindsight I think I should have used M-Factory 1,3,4,5 and then the stock 5th for highway crusing. On a track I do not need 2nd gear for any corner. It is only good for autocrossing. The jump from M-Factory 4th to stock 5th is Huge and I runout of rpms (in 4th)at all the tracks I go to. I drop it into 5th and the RRs are to low.

how about doing a write up on tranny drive ratios in cooperation with rear diff ratio so that us noobs know that when were putting in lsd's and changing gearing/trannys we know what works and what doesn't? I know it would help me.

A bit of a late response, but it was just my camera. It was professionally rigged to the steering column cover with duct tape. That was back when I was running an EJ205 and VF34....new videos will come soon with my EJ205/257 hybrid, FP Green, and JDM '02 STi 6-speed.

both myself and my buddy, who has an 03 wrx making around 390whp, were wondering what gear ratios he has. It has an andrewtech 1-4 ppg set.

running on 225-45-17's, he ran it out to 7500 in 2nd gear, looked like we were right at 75mph. i believe the gears were put into his 03 trans case because when he bought the gears originally, the case was cracked.

any ideas what ratios they may be? thanks for the help!

Are they straight cut? If not, your friend has the standard PPG helical synchro box. The ratios are as follows:

3.18 / 1.87 / 1.32 / 0.95 / OEM (.738)

The 1.87 2nd gear will take you to a theoretical 76mph with 225/45/17's. If it is a straight cut synchro box, it'll have the slightly taller 3.08 1st gear.

According to my various FSM I've amassed over the years, the 2002-2005 WRX 4EAT had 4.111FD; 2006-2007 had a 3.9FD. Skimming over it, I don't see anything about having a 1.1:1 center diff anywhere in the FSM for the automatics. Would it be possible to use the '06-'07 4EAT rear diff when swapping in an '04-'05 STI 6MT without the R180/hubs/etc?

The car is paid off and mine until the floorboards rust through, so lets not get into the "shoulda bought a manual"/"go buy a manual" discussion please.
