Darth, thanks for the pics. Especially with the passenger side mounting point. I did my kit in ~ 20 mins. Not hard at all. I have small hands so it was fairly easy for me to push the harness through the cubby hole with one hand and reach for it by the steering wheel/ glove compartment with the other hand.

I have the blue kit and it definitely brightens up the floor. With my kit, the glow seems very even throughout. Not distracting and you can't really see it from the outside unless you are looking. It's an easy accessory to hook up. I would recommend it.

Yeah, it's super-easy if you can reach in behind the steering wheel and glove-box, and you really don't need to get the Subaru kit either, as long as you're happy with the color/intensity of the LEDs and get (or make) a working wiring harness.

It's a fun mod, and if done right it's unobtrusive and not too gaudy

Now I just have to replace the rest of my lights with LEDs!

I have a 09 outback sport. Would this lighting kit work? I've found the hub "area" where you are showing. However mine has no light there! Just a silicone/rubber stopper plugging the hole?

Just did this install last night and it took about 25 minutes. The toughest part was routing the wire through the cubby hole to the passenger side without taking apart the dash. I basically routed it through the far right hole in the cubby, pulled it out, the put it through a straight shot next to the glove box. I was then able to open the glove box and feel the wire and pull it through.

The lights are relatively dim, but I'd imagine with some tint reducing the light pollution, it'd look a bit brighter.

Overall, a fun and quick little upgrade.

I'm looking @ a WRX with this already installed. I am not a fan of it.

Is it easy to disable? Are they run by a switch? Or when you turn on your lights? Or when the doors open?

Thanks!

No switch. If you don't like it, pull the cubby light out and just disconnect it. A whole 10 second job.

If you wanted to do this with a 2006 WRX, what would you need besides the LED's themselves? What sort of wiring would be required to have it turn on with your lowbeams? Any way that you could also have an ON/OFF switch for it, say, in the extra console switch spots?

Just my guess - I don't think the '06 has a cubby hole light, so you'd need to to extend the wiring from each LED to whatever 12v source you want to draw power from (e.g., another light that turns on with the lowbeams). An on-off switch sounds pretty trivial, but again it's a matter of wiring.

The OBS should have the light. I'm thinking when you are thinking light, you are looking for a bulb. The stopper you are describing is probably the condom over the LED that helps disperse the light. Pull out the stopper and you'll see wires connected to it.

If I can install the kit on my 08 OBS, I am 99.99% sure you can do it on an 09 OBS. Good luck, it's really easy.

the UK STI comes with mood lights in the footwell which dim when you close the door. The ceter console light only comes on with the headlights

Nice! The blue glow really works well with the gray interior.

In generally, the black WRX footwell background absorbs the light, and it's only really visible if you have lighter color shoes/pants that reflect it. I think the effect is much nicer in your 2.5i!

Yeah you def get more of a distinct glow. I have the same beige interior, but the black all weather mats suck up a lot of the light.

You just can't change the bulbs for the foot portion. You'll have to get the red kit. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

They're not bulbs, they're LED so they can't be just changed out. You need to buy the red kit, and then send me the blue kit

Hi Tek112,

The part number for the red footwell lighting kit is
H201SSC100 and any Subaru dealer should be able to order it for you. You may also want to get the red cubbyhole light from the STi to match the red footwell kit, the part number for that is: 66237SA120.

The replacement is easy since you already have the kit installed (the only slightly tricky part, the wiring harness, is already hooked up). When you get the kit, just look under your footwells for where the light is coming from, remove those parts, and replace them with the ones that come in the kit.

Once you've done that, you should have a complete blue footwell kit sitting around, maybe someone here will want to buy it.

Default In-line switch

I just bought an Impreza. It already has the illumination kit installed. Anyone know how I would put an in-line switch, so that I can shut it off when I wish?

Along the same lines of what winnis was asking, my factory installed 09 sti red led kit illuminates the shifter pocket when the headlights are on, but the footwell lighting is more of a courtesy light that turns on with an open door and then fades after it is closed.

Is there a way to run them all of the time like the pocket light? Does anyone know why the factory installed kit appears to work differently than the one you buy?

My uninformed guess is that this is a dealer-installed option, and since it's not very common, they simply wired the harness up "wrong." If you can trace the wire from either side of the footwell, you should be able to see where it plugs into, and move it to the cubbyhole connector instead.
