As of right now I spoke with him and we settled on numbers and the plan is I'm heading down Monday morning to pick it up. I just want some opinions. I like my Wrx but would like all the extras of the Sti. I already bought a bigger tmic and turbo for my car but figured I'd sell them and drive the Sti at stage two and not mod it. My logic is all the cost for turbo upgrade and supporting mods would balance out if I pay an extra 50/mo vs 100 here 200 here etc.

I justified the WRX by the difference in insurance. Within the first three months of having the car I went stage 3. I'm likely close to that 300whp mark after about 2k in engine mods and a tune. If I did it again I would probably go STI and be done as now I'm upgrading brakes and what not.

So, when's the next meet? I'm kinda jumping on the GR thread a little late...do you guys have anything scheduled on a weekly basis or has it kinda fallen off as the holidays approach?

If you're only going Stage 2 with the STi, is it worth the extra money? The bigger turbo, intercooler, and tune on your WRX won't be pushing the power to where should be worried about the WRX, and keeping the STi relatively low power seems like it's defeating the purpose. Do you plan on tracking your STi at all? What about Rally or Auto-X? If not, I'd stay with the WRX. The insurance is going to increase (although for me, I pay damn near the same for my bugeye WRX as I was quoted on a 05-07 STi.. go figure), brake changes will increase in cost, wheels will need to be 17's minimum (which makes winter tires more expensive), and if you ever decide to upgrade the engine side of the STi, you're going to have to go aftermarket turbo to really get a big difference in power (upgrading to a VF52/VF22 would be an increase from the VF39, but not enough to justify the cost IMO), injectors are going to be significantly bigger which means more money, intercooler will have to be either a nice TMIC (Hyperflow, Process West, Perrin), or you'll have to go FMIC.

Basically, if you're going to go to around 330-350whp with the WRX or STi, I'd stay WRX. But in the end it's up to you, and it sounds like you've already made up your mind and are just looking for confirmation from others that you're doing the right thing.

Yep, Founders on Monday. Bring on the early-summer temperatures!!

By the way: I'm swapping mufflers today, haha. I've got a giant diesel truck style muffler that is going to go on for the winter so I can let my car idle in front of my house and not wake up the neighbors in a 4 house radius. :P

All I am saying is I would by an sti take the stock **** crap off sell it and put better stuff on it. And not mess with a wrx again unless it was a newer one with a 2.5. That could be fun.

That car looks good. I am a sucker for black cars.

The first thing I would do is pull a learning view and see what shape the car is in. If its knocking more chance of it blowi something.

Were they still on his car?

I agree with what you're saying about the STi Rob, but I know that Randy got a good deal on his WRX when he bought it, just like I did with my WRX. I told myself I wouldn't buy another WRX and I sold a ****load of stuff off that I could have kept for this car, and then it bit me in the ass because I ended up getting a deal too good to pass up. I'd say I was pissed because I was so shortsighted as to get rid of my parts, but I'm not. He also has a 06 WRX with the 2.5, so him switching to the STi is only going to get him AVCS, 6 Speed, and Brembos, and if he's keeping it at a relatively low power level, none of that stuff will really be necessary/useful.

Aron, I would have done a flyby but you wouldn't have known I did. This thing is as quiet as stock, but has a bit of added bass... I hate it, but I know my neighbors/girlfriend will not hate me for starting and letting my car idle for 10 minutes every morning.

I'll be welding up a straight-pipe version in the Spring. I'll have three different noise levels to choose from: Straight pipe, Catted, Stock. And best of all?, I've used V-Bands on the axle-back so I don't have ****ty gaskets to deal with anymore and can swap these things out daily if I want. I also figured out the welding so now I'm not laying bird**** boogers on my pipe anymore, haha

They were in his garage and someone swiped them.

I think if I ever get another wrx it will be of the sti flavor. Now Ii am stuck with the wrx. Not a bad thing cars been good to me But I was on RS25 at 730 this morning lurking.

If anyone sees a good deal on a sti cluster let me know. Want one for the dccd when I get it together.

Thanks Rob. They also took a set of Michelin Alpins. They somehow got in my garage and rolled them out. Doubt it was a knowledgable car person...I hd a downpipe sitting right next to them and my stock suspension along with all my tools. All they took were my wheels and a bottle of spray wax. Renters insurance should take care of me though. Had Delta right me a quote on replacing so i can forward it to insurance.

These are the wheels, prolly will be on some dudes cavalier or corolla

Well there is no doubt that I want an Sti and want to stay with the 06 07 body style. Just looking for opinions from guys with experience. Do I do a turbo upgrade and supporting mods that would put me close to Sti power. Or take the money I would put into the upgrade towards payment on an Sti

I like my Wrx I just don't want to put a bunch of money into it and at the end of the day wish I spent that money on an Sti. And was wondering given the mileage and price difference if it seems like it would be worth

Only you can answer that one.

If I was to get an expensive car again, it would be an STi only, no WRX.

I've thought about it and looking back yes I should have bought an STI. However, I have more then a stock STI and less $$$ then going out and buying one. Plus I wanted a wagon.

Yep. My car will eventually have the good parts of an STi and be cheaper, and I love doing the work so all around I'm better off.
You on the other hand Randy, again, that's up to you.

Just curious on what they are giving you for your wrx? You said that you will have to pay $50more than what you do now for the next 6 years. Assuming you pay $200 per month right now that would make the STI $250 per month. Times that by 6 years and that come out to ~$15000. That link you posted had it listed for $19000. Something doesn't make sense.

Stiffer and lower than stock WRX, but lifted compared to his coilovers. I'm assuming for winter.

I'm dying for a Founders beer and food... Monday won't come soon enough.
